An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Education Caseworker for a role in Westminster.

This is a fantastic opportunity for teachers who are looking to share their extensive knowledge as part of the Kensington and Chelsea's Virtual School Team to make a positiveimpact on the achievements of Children in Care and Previously Looked After Children.

Delivering high quality training and support for Carers and Designated Teachers in schools, you will ensure statutory duties and best practice standards are met.

This role will focus on progress; needs identification, attendance, carefully targeted interventionand enrichment provision, which will meet academic, social and emotional needs.

You will use a high level of technical knowledge in relation to all aspects of education, including Special Education Needs, exclusions, and behaviour management.

The role requires someone with qualified teacher status, extensive teaching experience in at least 2 key stages ranging from early years to key stage 2 for primary and key stages 3 and 4 for secondary and experience within a school leadership role.

You willhave a strong understanding of current theory and research relating to the education for children in care, that informs effective practice and the ability to positively challenge school practice where it falls short.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:


  • Be responsible for a pupil caseload and ensuring the continued educational improvement of Kensington and Chelsea's Children in Care. This would include making arrangements for the monitoring and support of children in care and ensuring their needs are metand that the pupils follow an appropriate educational programme.
  • Be responsible for delivering the education vision, with particular focus on the political agenda and priorities and wider council objectives for our children in care and raising their attainment.
  • Lead and Develop practice in key educational advances, sharing this best practice with schools to influence school performance against Ofsted and DfE requirements, including the raising of attainment of children in care.
  • Assist social workers, school staff and carers to ensure that children in care have an effective, up to date Personal Education Plans (PEPs) in line with statutory obligations. Provide high quality advice and information for Social Workers, Carers and DesignatedTeachers involved in the compilation of such plans.
  • To manage the review process of PEPs and critically evaluate the effectiveness of their arrangements.
  • To monitor all Kensington and Chelsea's children in care who do not have access to an education placement. Devise and pursue plans in liaison with key professionals to ensure all such children gain access to education with minimum delay.
  • Make contact with key personnel in Children's Services and schools in order support and challenge professionals and overcome situations where children are not receiving appropriate education for unnecessary periods of time.
