Job Purpose
The SHEQ Advisor will assist the Head of SSHEQ and Head of Workshops in ensuring that workshop operations are safe, legally compliant and operating to the best environmental and quality standards applicable to our activities.
This will be accomplished by working alongside workshops staff and management, providing advice, guidance, coaching and support on their compliance with Health, Safety and Quality policies.
This role will aid in the drafting of these policies, risk assessments, procedural and operational documents to sufficiently define what we do, why we do it, and how it can be done safely and in compliance with existing and new legislation.
The SHEQ Advisor will be a key influencer in the continued development of the safety culture and compliance with our Safety Principles, ensuring continued accreditation to quality standards including ISO9001, ISO 45001, and ISO14001.
Key Accountabilities
- Working closely with the SSHEQ and Workshops team to provide advice, drive improvement of the safety culture and minimize safety incidents
- Prepare and review risk assessments and Safe Operating Procedures for activities carried out by workshops staff
- Auditing processes, sites and equipment to ensure compliance with regulation
- Participate in external (ISO, customer or regulatory) audits
- Participate in the preparation of Emergency Response procedures and actions for vehicles involved in safety incidents
- Assist in the preparation of and help to deliver safety training material
- Auditing of compliance with training plans, safety activity plans
- Creation of workshops KPI packs relating to safety incidents and trends
- Investigating or assisting in investigating accidents/ incidents where required, producing written reports and ensuring close out of preventive actions.
- Attend and mentor workshop safety committees
Education
Qualified Motor Vehicle Technician will be seen as an advantage
Safety related qualifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH
Experience
Experience in safety advisory roles
Strong understanding, awareness and focus on health and safety
Experience in motor vehicle workshops, preferably commercial vehicles
UK driving licence is essential
Computer literate with the ability to work with spreadsheets and write procedures
A high level of understanding of Legal Compliance and standards of Roadworthiness
Experience of work with ADR (dangerous goods) tankers an advantage
Experience in tanker workshop maintenance or safety an advantage
Skills and Competencies
