Fixed Term Consultant Cellular Pathologist - 1 year covering maternity leave


Applications are sought for a Fixed Term Consultant Cellular Pathologist to join a dynamic team of twelve consultants working in the cellular pathology department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH).

The RSCH is one site across the newly formed University Hospitals Sussex NHS foundation trust (UHSussex).

The post is a fix term post to cover a period of maternity leave for one of our breast pathologists.

Reporting of breast is essential.


The clinical duties of the post include the following:

  • Reporting of diagnostic histopathology
  • Reporting of relevant intra operative frozen sections
  • Clinical educational supervision of trainees
  • Participation in governance and management

The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.

While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
