Overview:


We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to work for our client at their facility in Cirencester.

The role is an exciting opportunity involved in the accountability and responsibility for developing electrical system or sub-systemdesigns that supports the achievement of sales and profit targets and the provision of superior service in a high quality, timely, cost-effective and resource-efficient way.


Duties & Responsibilities:


Involved in project work which will typically involve leading the design of a range of products and will typically involve producing specifications for sub-contractors/suppliers to produce electrical designs against whereas the smaller projects might befully designed in house including Conveyor Control Sub-systems / Panels, Motion/Servo Control Sub-Systems / Panels and Complete Factory Automation Production Lines.

Involved in the contribution of delivery of engineering projects through undertaking the following:

  • Agreeing relevant personal objectives, targets and success criteria for assigned activities on the project.
  • Developing and managing the project plan for defined engineering projects, in conjunction with other departments.
  • Preparing detailed specifications and special test procedures as required meeting project objectives.
  • Consulting with the design engineers (OEM's design department or the engineering department), to facilitate all aspects of the design function and approve concepts of electrical systems control.
  • Specifying/designing/documenting and (specifically) developing correct electrical solutions for interfacing company products with third party systems and for plant networks on machine control systems. This will include PLC/HMI/control systems and otherhardware from company and other manufacturer's. Adherence and compliance to the current electrical design standards and processes are mandatory.
  • Continuous awareness of EMC effects on a system and the minimisation of those effects must be considered in all electrical design considerations.
  • Managing subcontractors where necessary, to ensure they deliver work packages to the agreed delivery schedules and the production of operating and maintenance manuals to meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Identifying the relevant quality checks for hardware and wiring design required during the job/project, enabling the content of quality plans to be defined.
  • Providing technical support for company manufactured and approved sourced products to both internal and external customers.
  • Creating electrical specifications and special test procedures to company standards. This will require the use of the Factory Automation electrical and hardware design specification.
  • Supporting workshop testing and commissioning and/or faultfinding and commissioning at customers' premises as required.
  • Maintaining risk assessments where required, ensuring up to date knowledge and compliance with machinery and EMC directives and other safety requirements are met.
  • Provide functional safety expertise into the department, and for our customers, ensuring that all safety related components and circuits comply to the machinery directive and in line with the safety categorisation of the system as a whole. Ideally usingSistema to verify and validate all safety related hardware selections and circuits. Organising and attending events and meetings, giving presentations to meet customer needs whenever appropriate.
  • Networking and building high quality, businessfocused relationships with current and potential customers, sales partners, and developing close working relationships as required.
  • Ensuring complete access of relevant information/materials by organising and maintaining files and work area, e.g. project correspondence register and project files.
  • Participate in relevant training; development and asking for support as required.
  • Monitoring; sharing own progress and addressing any changes, taking corrective action as required.
  • Communicating regularly with other members of the team, department/branch and business to ensure rapid twoway flow of information and contribution to effective team working.
Also involved in the responsibility for project electrical design and build planning, developing work packages for project delivery and cost control by:

  • Contributing to the development of department/project objectives.
  • Delivering projects and/or activities to meet these objectives.
  • Monitoring progress and addressing any variances in electrical systems development and testing using the current electrical design processes in force.
  • Ensuring quality standards and customer requirements are met.
  • Be able to plan workload in an organised, logical and methodical pattern and present back progress on key milestones to the project lead, customers and sales management.
  • Be able to work seamlessly, both independently and as part of a wider project team that will involve multiple disciplines and departments across the business.
  • Advise on gaps in electrical resource concerning both labour and special equipment requirements specific to project needs.
  • Advise on timeline planning and milestone objective setting concerning the design and delivery of control systems of any given project.
To keep up to date with new product developments in automation systems and electrical design in order to enhance business decision making by:

  • Maintaining a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of trends in automation and control systems; electrical equipment development; methodology and systems engineering in all relevant UK and European Machine & Electrical Directives.
