Overview:

This role is a full time Fixed Term Appointment (with Fair and Open Competition) for a period of 23 months.


The System Administrator will be responsible for Mac devices, servers, networking, and accounts of the Digital Publishing developer network ("devnet").

This will include procurement, build, provision and management of Macs.

They will provide end user support and network management duties including maintaining the firewall and VPN. Use of configuration management tools to manage servers is an essential part of this role. An understanding of virtualization and cloud technologies (AWS) is an advantage.

The work includes liaising with suppliers and working together with colleagues in corporate IT roles. For example, they will ensure that devices antivirus software that satisfies corporate IT policies.


The System Administrator will be an essential point of contact for the on-boarding process which involves assigning equipment to new starters and ensuring colleagues can carry out their tasks successfully from their first day onwards.


Digital (DDaT) Pay Supplement

Responsibilities:


  • Providing IT support for the Digital Publishing team
  • Managing the developer network used by the team, including servers, laptops, desktops, network infrastructure and software
  • Collaboration with corporate IT support colleagues to resolve issues efficiently
  • Maintaining selfservice managed software installation
  • Management of assets, licences and user accounts
  • Assisting users with onboarding, hardware/software issues and account problems
  • Investigate opportunities to improve existing services

This post is based in the above location, with hybrid working in line with current Scottish Government policies.


Minimum Time in post
