What you will be doing
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team at the heart of Water Systems Performance.

You will gain extensive skills and knowledge in the operation of our vast clean water hydraulic system, from source to tap.

You will work together with the System Optimisation Engineer to manage a sustainable, high-performing hydraulic system.

In this pursuit, you will need to analyse corporate data and leverage the insights gained to drive performance in the region.


  • Achieve key operational and regulatory targets.
  • Monitor, investigate and resolve systemic issues, to ensure a safe and reliable drinking water supply now and into the future.
  • Manage the accuracy and availability of data from our assets, so that critical business insights can be gained and acted upon.
  • Support the System Optimisation Engineer in facilitating engineering and customerled improvement projects.
  • Provide specialist technical support to the wider business in the management of unplanned emergency incidents.
  • Develop risk assessments to resolve complex operational problems (for example the repair and maintenance of water pipes, or the installation of new assets).
  • Support strategic initiatives for managing the water system in your area, accounting for population growth and the influence of climate change.

We are looking for you to:

  • Hold relevant education/experience in the water or utilities industry, or a suitable STEM discipline (or equivalent).
  • Have a competent IT skillset. Capable of using qualitative/ quantitative data to resolve problems and drive business performance.
  • An excellent communicator who demonstrates strong leadership skills, and an ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working with tight deadlines and highprofile projects.
  • Experience working with GIS mapping systems, SCADA telemetry, and standard corporate IT systems such as Microsoft 365 is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Will benefit from project management and continuous improvement experience. However, this is not mandatory.
  • Full driving licence and own transport are desirable, due to required attendance at meetings spread across various Thames Water sites.
