Job Title:
(Communications) Research and Policy Manager


Duration:
The post is a 2-year fixed-term full-time position (with the possibility of extension)


The Research & Policy Manager will work across the organisation to support research & policy initiatives and projects, including communications and events support as per the Strategic Plan.


Duties:


  • Develop and lead highquality and impactful research and policy projects.
  • Identify new topics and develop new research proposals.
  • Oversee the delivery of major research, training and knowledge exchange programme initiatives, ensuring they are managed to business requirements, specifications, time and budget.
  • Undertake desk, qualitative and quantitative research to support our policy objectives.
  • Produce highquality research and policy reports through clear writing and analysis.
  • Lead and support policy and influencing projects.
  • Coordinate expert groups to support research and other projects.
  • Engage a range of stakeholders including charities, companies, government depts, higher education institutions and other relevant key stakeholders.
  • Develop stakeholder lists for specific projects and events and ensure the OCN NI database is maintained and developed.
  • Develop and produce blogs.
  • Support our communications work including our online presence; newsletters; dissemination activities and press releases.
  • Attend conferences and speak on webinars.
  • Communicate project information and status to all relevant parties, providing early warning and escalation of key issues to the senior management team.
  • Act as a primary contact point for all internal and external partners and ensure strong business relationship management.
  • Work with Institute Partners, sponsors and researchers to ensure the project portfolio is visibly relevant and integrated into current strategies and policies.
  • Support the organisation and the wider team.
  • Ensure all data and information relating to areas of work are managed and maintained in line with data protection regulations (GDPR)

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent in the relevant area.
  • At least 3 years of relevant project management experience within a research environment.
  • Experience in planning and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience in report writing.
  • Good analytical skills demonstrated by a structured and methodical approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with a wide range of people and audiences at all levels.
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as proven team building and motivational skills.
  • Time management, prioritisation, and calmness under pressure.
  • Good IT and tech skills.

Desirable Criteria
Knowledge and understanding of NI politics and education policy.


Pension: 6% Employee & 6% Employer contributions.


Location:
Belfast


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (exclusive of lunch breaks). Flexible start/finish times are in operation with core working hours from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday.


Holidays:
Entitlement is 39 days each year inclusive of statutory and public holidays.
