Location:

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £33,348 to £43,155 with potential progression once in post to £45,737

Grade 7

Part-time (60% FTE), Fixed Term contract up to 12 months in the first instance

Background


The Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit is one of two UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered clinical trials units (CTUs) at the University of Birmingham, and employs over 120 members of staff.

The unit has an extensive portfolio of clinical trials covering a wide range of disease areas across both primary and secondary care.

The unit is currently running approximately 60 trials, test evaluation or screening studies.


Role Summary


The post holder will support and assist to develop the team of trial management staff responsible for the delivery of a portfolio of clinical trials; under the supervision a Trial Management Team Leader and the Director of Operations.

The portfolio includes Clinical Trials of Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPS), diagnostic tests, behavioural and other interventions with both national and international recruitment.

The Deputy Team Leader will work with Senior Management in developing and maintaining trials, promoting BCTU activities at a national and international level.


They will share responsibility alongside Team Leaders for ensuring that trials are conducted according to applicable regulations and quality standards and are delivered to time and target.

They will contribute to the operations of the Unit by taking an active role in implementing the Unit's Quality Management System.


Main Duties

  • Contribute to the leadership of a trial team(s) responsible for the management of a number of clinical trials plus any other projects that may be allocated to the team from time to time. The portfolio currently is mainly large, multicentre randomised trials.
  • Report directly to Team Leaders and BCTU Director of Operations, and also liaise with the Chief Investigators for each of the clinical trials.
  • Work independently but seek appropriate guidance on important or new issues that require policy decision or have serious resource implications, or could impact on the work of other teams or affect the Unit's external profile
  • Ensure milestones are met and trials are delivered to time and target. Advise at any stage the Director of Operations of potential issues which may affect delivery of the trials and advise on and implement corrective action plan.
