Communications Officer


We are looking for a Communications Officer to join our established Income Generation team at St Teresa's Hospice Darlington.


We are a forward thinking, inclusive registered Charity with Inpatient, Outpatient and Community services, providing care and support to palliative patients and their families in their own homes and at St Teresa's Hospice.


The Communications Officer will support the marketing and fundraising teams to plan and implement the charity's online and offline communications activities.

They will create multimedia content for various publications and other resources, and be responsible for production of press releases and liaising with local and national media.


Main duties of the job
Media and PR

  • Work with the Marketing Team to manage a schedule of media and PR activity in line with the organisation's communications strategy.
  • Create media releases; write content and gather photographs.
  • Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to media enquiries, e.g. for interviews.
  • Develop relationships with local and national media to ensure our stories are featured
Content Creation

  • Liaise with various stakeholders to gather content and case studies to assist the communications and fundraising teams in the production of various publications.
  • Capture images and video to build and maintain a resource library.
  • Write copy for a variety of purposes, publications and platforms (online and offline).
  • Arrange and undertake interviews with stakeholders as relevant to gather content.
  • Source information, adapting, editing and simplifying technical documents into plain English to be published across various channels.
  • Support the Marketing Team with other tasks as required.


The person appointed will work mainly in income generation (fundraising and retail) but will also be part of the team influencing all communications and awareness campaigns for the Hospice.
