Job Introduction


The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for all Quality aspects for the assets assigned to them and for escalating issues when required in relation to the works on site or the interaction with the Delivery and Supporting teams as well as the supply chain.


The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for providing guidance, support and direction in relation to planning assurance for the works to start on site as per the SCS QA timeline, managing progressive assurance for the works in progress, and managing productionof handover documentation.


The Senior Quality Engineer will provide assurance to both the SCSJV Management and the Client that the Delivery Team and the supply chain are delivering the Works in accordance with the Works Information and the design requirements.

Role Responsibility

  • Be proactive in preventing substandard Works being produced by coaching and providing training.
  • Ensure that quality management is given the highest priority by the Delivery Team in the delivery of their works to achieve right first time.
  • Communicate with Delivery Team(s) and subcontractors to ensure full understanding of quality assurance requirements.
  • Conducting ITP reviews and capturing comments formally using relevant online platforms
  • Conducting MCR reviews using relevant online platforms
  • Reviewing ITP checksheets and ITP record packs to ensure compliance with works information/specifications
  • Proactively manage NCR trackers on a weekly basis for the designated assets. This involves meeting with Delivery teams/Engineering Management Teams and progressing NCRs to the next stage. Also, closing out NCRs within defined time period.
  • Chairing Quality Focus Meetings with delivery teams and distribute minutes to attendees/relevant people.
  • Attending delivery team meetings where required
  • Undertaking and organising surveillances where required, drafting and distributing the findings as per the surveillance procedure.
  • Planning and attending Quality Risk Reviews and ensuring they are carried out on time as per the QA timeline
  • Attending Activity Readiness Reviews and provide updates
  • Updating ITP schedule in line with the QA timeline
  • Updating Quality Risk Register schedule
  • Working with delivery teams to ensure quality issues are resolved
  • Issues with online tools/platforms to be reported/escalated to relevant parties for resolution
  • Attend Weekly QA Team meeting
  • Provide information for monthly reporting
  • Liaising with Handover/Delivery Teams for ITP checksheets/records pack submissions
  • Contribution to Monthly Quality Leadership meeting
  • Resolving/identifying issues with certification e.g. does ITP cover all of specification requirements?
  • Attend HS2 HORACE surveillances
  • Provide coaching/training to junior team members and Delivery Team (s)
  • Provide support and holiday cover to the Assistant Quality Manager.
  • In addition to the above discipline role, the Quality Engineer must carry out his/her duties in accordance with the SCSJV Core Values. Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirementsas they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.
  • Managed Quality on a relevant project
  • Experience within quality related role on a major infrastructure project
  • Experience of working on Civil engineering projects.
  • Computer competence (MS Word, Excel).
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Onsite training in Quality.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management systems.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract.

Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the constructionof site compounds.

It is an SCSJV requirement that all employees, Design House,and Supply Chains must implement and comply with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System with guidance for use", OHSAS 18001:2017Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems and ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management System, Policies, Plans, Procedures and Processes, and statutory requirements as they affect the Joint Venture 's operations and ensure that the requirements,as applicable within their discipline, are effectively implemented on the project.
