Rotherham Council's Children's Services have continued from strength to strength, most recently being deemed "Good" by.


We are currently recruiting Short Break Residential Practitioners who hold Level 3 qualification or have significant experience working with children to join our short breaks innovation.

The short breaks innovation will be based within our existing short breaks service and has been set up following a successful bid through the Department for Education.

This home will offer provision for up to 5 young people aged 8-18.

Our Children and Young People's Services are working in partnership with the council's Children's Disability Social Work team to provide holistic care and safeguarding.


As part of this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality care to young people, in a safe environment.
  • Promote and protect and welfare of looked after children throughout the local borough.
  • Prepare and carry out key work for individual children and young people.
  • Encourage children and young people to influence the decisions that affect them.
  • Create a joinedup service as part of a team that centres on the child's safety.
  • Carry out everyday activities to run a home, from mealtimes to report writing.
  • Attend meetings, training and supervision to further your knowledge and skills.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment where a Rotherham young person can thrive.

About you
You will be a Level 3 registered practitioner with experience working within a residential setting.

You may otherwise be an experienced caregiver with skills and experience that match our requirements. This might be experience you earned in a residential or similar setting, whether that's statutory or non-statutory.


You'll be a committed member of the team, seeking to inspire and support some of our most complex young people.

Sometimes this will involve solo provision, supported by a deputy and registered manager. As part of the residential team you will be required to work evenings, weekends and sleep-in shifts as needed.

In recognition of implementing this temporary measure, those who experience a pay reduction will be awarded three additional day's leave (pro rata for part-time).

£26,421.00-£28,771.00 per year
