About The Role


This role would suit either a Nurse or a Support Worker with experience in complex care.

Location:
Charlton, London SE7


Days & Hours:
Up to 30 hours per week.


Term-time: Monday & Wednesday 2pm-8pm and 1x waking night 7.45pm-9am on a Thursday or a Friday and 4.75 hrs of Team Leader duties.


Pay:
£22-£23 an hour dependent on shift


Driver required? Desirable

Driving Clients Car? Not essential however drivers may be required to drive the Wheelchair Adapted Vehicle (WAV), automatic

Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Not essential may be beneficial to attend training

Essential:
Supporting children with complex needs. Confident with PEG feeding, suctioning, epilepsy and administering medication.

Accommodation (while on duty): 5-bedroom family home with adaptations, carers' suite with a bed, kitchenette and washing machine located on the top floor of the property.

Our Client, born in 2013, lives at home with his mother and sees his father and grandmother at weekends. He enjoys watching TV, listening to music and spending time with family.

Our client has Cerebral Palsy affecting all 4 limbs and communication difficulties. He requires close monitoring of his epilepsy. He has a gastrostomy and requires suctioning at times to manage his secretions. Due to his complexity he requires observation monitoring. He is dependent on carers for all of his care needs, transfers and mobility and uses a wheelchair. He requires hoisting for all transfers which requires assistance of 2 carers.


You will be joining a small care team where you will be taking direction from the client's mother and Case Manager to ensure that our client receives all the care he needs.

Our client requires full assistance with his daily routines and all of his personal care needs.

The role will include a mixture of PEG feeding and suctioning, medication administration, supporting his mobility via hoisting and assisting with all of his therapies.

This job will suit someone who is calm but very proactive and able to bring lots of enthusiasm to the role with a general role in promoting the Clients learning, care and independence in the home and community.


  • Team Leader duties to include: rota management, appraisals, supervisions, medication checking and ordering.

  • About You

Essential

  • Experience of working with children with complex and special needs, with enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn client specific needs.
  • Experience of formulating appropriate care plans for clients.
  • Experience of formatting rotas.
  • Must be able to work with specialist equipment (training will be provided). A Handling Management Plan is available and is designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries, but you may be required to bend, kneel, squat, push or pull.
  • A good communicator.
  • Experience of and qualifications in caring for children/young people with severe disabilities.
  • Able to practice as a competent support worker and provide evidence to demonstrate this.
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships, including the utilisation of the appropriate person management skills required to lead, train and support a team of support workers.
  • Good written skills and the ability to keep adequate written records of care given.
  • Monitoring and management of electronic documentation management system.
  • Understanding of the importance of feedback to qualified members of the team.
  • Confident about working in a client's own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of his parents.
