Adecco are currently recruiting for a
General Builder to join a prestigious university based in Reading.
Roles and responsibilities
To be proactive in maintaining, supporting and promoting a secure and safe working environment for all customers, staff and visitors.
- To be responsible to the Direct Labour Manager for carrying out reactive and planned maintenance tasks and repairs to the standard agreed and within current Health & Safety legislation.
- To carry out all work to a high standard and within the current Health & Safety legislation.
- Carry out the erection of Aluminium tower scaffolding in accordance with the Working at Height Regulations 200
- Carry out temporary waterproof protection following water penetration.
- Carry out repairs to all types of guttering, including total replacement.
- Carry out the manual excavation and repair of broken drainage/collapsed foul/surface water drainage pipe work.
- Carry out the excavation and repair of broken/collapsed foul/surface water drainage pipe work using mechanical digger including all necessary shoring.
- Carry out the manual excavation and repair of burst water
- Carry out the excavation and repair of burst water mains using mechanical digger including all necessary shoring.
- Carry out the demolition of defective brick/block work and rebuild; including toothed out and bond to match existing.
- Carry out the installation of concrete disabled ramps, including all necessary excavation, formwork and hand railing.
- Carry out the repair/replacement of paved footpaths, including kerb edging.
- Carry out minor repairs to tarmac roads and footpaths.
- Carry out repairs to chimney pots including flaunching and lead flashings.
- Adhere to the University's asbestos protocols.
- Carry out risk assessments prior to commencement of work.
- To maintain all relevant documentation.
- To keep up to date with current legislation.
- To undertake all necessary training to ensure and maintain competency levels.
- To maintain a high standard of appearance by wearing the uniform provided and also using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when necessary.
- To carry out any other duties requested by the Head of Maintenance and Business Services or Head of Buildings Maintenance.
