Our client is a leading recycling and resource management company, are gearing up to open the doors of their newly refurbished site in Falkirk.

The site will process tonnes of household waste per year, recovering resources to extend their lifecycle and returning them back into a circular economy ensuring nothing is wasted.


As part of the first phase of recruitment for this facility, we are looking for a number of Chargehands to join our team.

The main role of the Chargehand is to assist the shift supervisor to oversee a fast-paced materials recovery process.

You will report to the shift supervisor, optimising working practices and standards and reporting any issues of concerns.


This position requires a good level of communication and operational skills to liaise with the shift supervisor and the shift team members to aid the shift team in meeting the department and company targets with regards to quality, health & safety, and environmental compliance.


This is a working supervisory role meaning the Chargehand will be required to cover other roles that they are trained for during operator planned leave or absence and when required according to business need.


Main Duties

  • General site housekeeping
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and that all operations comply with the site licence
  • Ensuring all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, nearmiss reporting, and emergency procedures
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of Toolbox talks and ensuring they are delivered to staff in a timely manner
  • Fire alarm testing and the coordination of periodic fire drills
  • Monitoring stock levels of vehicle and plant supplies
  • Completing all administrative tasks associated with role, including daily site checks, and weekly stock compliance checks
  • Supporting site management to ensure the site has adequate cover of staff during operational hours including overtime and holiday rotas
  • Maintaining a good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Contributing toward ongoing cost control, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reducing operating costs, increasing margins, and meeting budget targets set
  • Supporting the site management team to provide leadership, give work instructions, and monitor the correct adoption of site rules and adherence to traffic management plans and site licence
  • Supporting site management to manage, motivate, train, and develop team as required
  • Ensuring contractors and external parties comply with Levenseat safety requirements
  • Deputising for the supervisors and carrying out other reasonable tasks as the company may require from time to time

Essential Skills

  • Experience of production plants within the waste or manufacturing sector
  • Driving licence

Desirable Skills

  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • HNC or equivalent in a process or engineering field
  • Certificate of Technical Competence Level
  • Experience of a CMMS
