The post holder will carry out duties working alongside Medical and Nursing staff to ensure that a high quality of patient centred service is delivered.


  • On completion of competencies the role will include assisting medical staff with clerical jobs including compiling test results. Clinical procedures including peripheral cannulation, venepuncture, Male and female urethral catheterisation, 12 lead ECG recording, aseptic technique and escorting patients.
  • Good communication skills towards patients and colleagues and the ability to organise allocated work is an essential component of this post.

Key Dimensions:


Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.


To plan, organise, prioritise and adjust own case load in relation to patient requirement, indirectly supported by Registered Nurse on ACT.


  • The case load will be ward specific but the role will require the post holder to work across the trust wards
  • To be responsible for accurately generating information resources and ensuring this information is communicated to the appropriate Medical Team.
  • The role requires the service to be delivered 24/7 on internal rotation
An exciting opportunity has arisen with in the Acute Care Team for a Band 3 Doctor assistant role. We are looking for highly motivated Member' of staff to join our very busy team.


The role will sit within the existing Acute Care Team (ACT) and the post holders will be supported to achieve their competencies to fulfill the requirements of the role.

To manage, under indirect supervision, own workload within competencies of the post.

  • Following patient assessment by Medical Team, undertake clinical skills specific to individual
competence under indirect supervision.

  • Ability to undertake a range of agreed competency based diagnostic tests including Venepuncture &
Cannulation, Urethral Catheterisation, 12 Lead ECG and bladder scanning. This list is not exhaustive.

  • Ability to ensure all diagnostic tests are completed and documented as directed by the Medical team.
  • To adhere to infection control policies and guidance.
  • To record tests undertaken within the documentation framework.
  • To obtain results via the Information Technology system and communicate these to Medical Team.
  • To assist the nursing and medical teams in emergency situations
