Description

The Anaesthetic Department benefits from the supportive cohesiveness of a district general department, with specialist services and a wide case mix with a diverse population across two sites; University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.


The department is expanding to establish collaborative training programs for Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) and Anaesthetic Associate (AA).

There is ongoing development to achieve Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA). The department participates in PQIP, NELA and NHFD databases, along with NAP and multi-centre research projects.


Both sites benefit from weekly morning (breakfast) and monthly half day governance meetings that ensure ample opportunities for CPD and team building.


This is an exciting opportunity for 2 conscientious and diligent Anaesthetists who have a caring attitude to patients to join our dynamic team of enthusiastic Anaesthetists to provide elective and emergency care to our maternity, paediatric and adult patients.

The posts have a significant commitment towards elective and emergency Obstetric Anaesthesia, However a wide range of broad experience in Anaesthetics is essential.


There are two RCoA approved posts, both attract 10 programmed activities (PAs) based on the 2003 Consultant contract and are offered as a split of 7.5 direct clinical care (DCC) and 2.5 supporting professional activities (SPA).

The post holder will contribute to the non-resident Consultant on-call tier for University Hospital Lewisham.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was established on 1st October 2013.

The trust is responsible for University Hospital Lewisham, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich, as well as a range of community health services and services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.

Eligible employees will normally be entitled to claim assistance up to total maximum of £8,000.

In exceptional circumstances and then only with prior agreement the Trust may provide financial assistance of up to £3,000 to reflect the higher cost of property within the Inner London area.

Eligible employees will be entitled to up to four days paid leave to supervise their house move.

We provide both elective and emergency surgical services, obstetrics, immediate stabilisation of critically ill adults & children, acute & chronic pain and peri-operative care including daily Consultant pre-assessment clinics.

It is expected the post holder will work across both sites depending on service development and mutually agreed job plans.


The surgical services that are supported include:

General & major Colorectal, Trauma & elective complex Orthopaedics,major Gynaecology, Uurology, Bariatric & metabolic, adult & paediatric ENT, and general paediatric surgery.

We have a remarkably close and functional relationship with our Intensive Care Unit


Our close links with King's College London and the South East School of Anaesthesia allows you will be to inspire the next generation of doctors at undergraduate and across levels of post-graduate training.
