BAM FM is recruiting a Premises Officer.


You will be working 37.5 hours per week, in a shift pattern ensuring the smooth operation of Ifield Community Collage in Crawley.

Your mission

  • Assist with maintenance duties to ensure that the general upkeep and maintenance of the premises is satisfactory.
  • Supervise decoration programmes as agreed with the Site Cocoordinator/Deputy Facilities Manager/Facilities Manager.
  • Minor improvement work, as agreed with the Site Cocoordinator/Deputy Facilities Manager/Facilities Manager.
  • Make arrangements for dealing with emergencies which occur outside normal hours.
  • Assist with ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the heating and boiler systems and assist with the maintenance of the appropriate records.
  • Assist with the execution of carrying out weekly fire alarm tests.
  • Undertake such other duties appropriate to the post as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the school as directed.
Caretaking

  • Supervision of cleaning staff, that the staff are redeployed as necessary to meet all the requirements of the school.
  • Ensure that satisfactory levels of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained with regard to buildings, external walkways, drives, playgrounds, gullies, car parks, playing fields and gardens and ensure that all graffiti is removed promptly.
  • Ensure that the external environment of the school is kept free of litter and weeds etc., and that pathways are gritted or salted when required during wintry conditions.
  • Assist with the movement of furniture and equipment within the site.
  • Assist with the satisfactory receipt, distribution, collection and despatch of goods.
  • Ensure the responsible operation, care and maintenance of all equipment and tools associated with caretaking maintenance work, and to ensure that proper safety standards and requirements are applied.
Security

  • Ensure that all contractors to the school are signed in as such, that they wear in a prominent position, an ID badge, and to ensure that the contractors return the badge upon vacating the premises.
  • Ensure adequate security of buildings and premises at all times and to comply with any special security requirements as laid down from time to time by the Headteacher and / or Facilities Manager.
Health and Safety

  • Observe that all relevant Health and Safety rules and regulations are complied with by all personnel.
  • Report the contravention of HBG's and statutory regulations by contractors or other personnel on site that could be detrimental the health and safety of staff, visitors and students.
  • Assist, where necessary, with the programme of statutory testing.
School Activity Programmes

  • Liaise with the Helpdesk and the Leisure Manager in relation to non school lettings
  • Liaise with the Helpdesk, Leisure Manager and Headteacher in relation to school lettings and to assist with the opening of the site to school staff on non school days
  • Participate in the preparation of the premises for school events, reception of visitors, car parking etc
  • Assist with the movements of exam desks.
  • Assist where necessary in maintenance of the school gardens / flower beds not covered by the grounds maintenance contract.

Who are we looking for?

  • Caretaking and associated services qualifications desirable but DIY/ building maintenance skills essential.
