This is a full time Junior Clinical Fellow post for a fixed term of 12 months


The post holders will also be expected to assist the specialist registrars in the efficient running of the inpatient service (including acute cardiology triage) and may have a regular commitment to the out-patient service.

Service commitment permitting, the post holder will be able to undertake training in the more invasive aspects of Cardiology. This can be best accommodated in the areas of pacing, coronary angiography and coronary intervention. It must also be noted that there are 9 SpR grade trainees who also require access to the catheter laboratories


There are 16 cardiologists in the department with special interests in device therapy, interventional cardiology, complex echo and grown up congenital heart disease.

There is a busy and comprehensive non-invasive service offering exercise testing, ambulatory monitoring and echocardiography. The echo service is particularly busy with a well
- developed stress echo service together with transoesophageal echo and 3D echo. Nuclear cardiology and Cardiac CT and MRI are also performed. Videoconference MDT with cardiothoracic surgery and a tertiary GUCH centres occur biweekly and weekly respectively.

There are three cardiac cath labs where pacing, diagnostic angiography, PCI and a 24/7 Primary PCI programme are delivered. Complex Congenital heart disease features amongst the diagnostic studies

Acute and elective percutaneous coronary intervention including pressure wire assessment, rotational atherectomy and IVUS are performed in increasing numbers. A 24/7 primary PCI and ACS revascularisation service for a population approaching 1 million started in April 2009.

Simple and complex pacing, cardiac resynchronisation, and ICD implants are undertaken in the angio suite. Standard EP is also conducted with plans to commence Complex EP procedures later this year. Pacing and ICD follow up is undertaken both in Norwich and at satellite clinics in Cromer and Yarmouth
