Senior Merchandiser - Utility (12 month FTC)

  • 12 Month Fixed Term Contract DC)


This is a fantastic opportunity to join as a Senior Merchandiser looking after both own label product and big brands.

You would be joining a Commercial team that has seen outstanding growth, owning one of the biggest areas on Home.


This is a lead merchandising role in the Commercial team, responsible for translating the category strategy, deliver agreed stock parameters to all Sainsbury's Argos channels and overseeing its execution to deliver profitable growth for their ranges.


Fully accountable for the planning and execution of the sourcing, selection and trading strategy for a diverse and broad product range to deliver a customer focused proposition alongside agreed target KPIs (including Sales, Margin, Stock, Availability, Digital metrics, and Customer satisfaction), in line with the commercial strategy.


To act as a coach and leader by managing, motivating, and developing the Merchandising team and work closely with Buying counterparts to ensure that the category strategy is achieved.


What you will do as a Senior Merchandiser

  • Create and implement a customer driven strategic vision for their ranges in line with the category strategy agreed with the senior stakeholders with clearly defined and measurable initiatives.
  • Work with the Senior Buyer to plan balanced and commercial ranges for all channels.
  • Create the seasonal plan for sales, margin, markdown and stock within agreed budget parameters.
  • Accountable for planning and prioritisation of stock flow into the business throughout the product life cycle using all available merchandising and logistics tools to meet availability targets and requirements.
  • Be responsible for planning and reviewing forecasts to ensure sales, stock holding, margin and availability is optimised. Presenting up to date forecasts on a periodic basis
  • Ensure ontime range launches through delivery of merchandising milestones within the critical path, ensuring any issues are resolved through liaising with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Work with the Buying team to review weekly trading performance on KPIs and to identify any issues and opportunities to respond to weekly trading conditions
  • Responsible for identifying markdown and managing terminal stocks
  • Work cross functionally across a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • To act as a coach and leader by managing, motivating and developing the merchandising team, regularly assessing individuals' performance and giving feedback where appropriate

What we'd like to see from you

  • Proven track record & recent comparable experience in a merchandising role
  • Digital channel experience (including digital merchandising)
  • Excellent technical knowledge of merchandising systems
  • Strong commercial, analytical, problem solving & presentation skills
  • Proven track record of delivering results to target as an individual and within a team
  • Proactive approach to own development & learning.
