Head of Service Delivery - National Referral Centre (NRC)

Job Summary


A key focus of this role will be to support the continued integration of the NRC across existing organ and tissue donation services, identifying synergies and designing and implementing processes to optimise the service.

In this role you will be a key member of the Organ Donation Management Team and have overall accountability for leading discrete and specific business initiatives arising from the Organ & Tissue Donation Strategies and clinical, legislative, DH or policy initiatives which support and enable the safe and efficient delivery of the Organ & Tissue Donation Service across the UK.


Main duties of the job

In this role you will be a key member of the Organ Donation Management Team and have overall accountability for leading discrete and specific business initiatives arising from the Organ & Tissue Donation Strategies and clinical, legislative, DH or policy initiatives which support and enable the safe and efficient delivery of the Organ & Tissue Donation Service across the UK.


Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading the continued development of the operating model for the NRC. As the operational lead for the NRC, you will ensure that coordination and logístical services are provided to ensure that donation opportunities turn into transplant outcomes effectively and efficiently.
  • Interpretation and analysis of data, initiatives or policy/legislation changes to understand their impact on Organ & Tissue Donation Services, making recommendations for endorsement by the Assistant Director to take through to formal implementation.
  • Providing highly specialised advice concerning the care and treatment of donors within the clinical service of Organ & Tissue Donation and act as an advisory specialist expert to UK national project and other Advisory Groups
  • You will be required to participate in a shared oncall rota covering 24/7 x 365 days per year, involving some unsocial hours working. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • High level of knowledge of current issues, research and developments within the sphere of Organ Donation supporting & maintaining the processes which underpin it
  • Ability to produce and interpret business and clinical initiatives, policy and legislation through to development of clear strategies leading to implementation and Organ Donation Service Development and Improvement
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Experience of working with Information Technology using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience of analytical skills to lead and support the implementation of new and changing initiatives
  • Experience of undertaking investigations to support clinical or other incidents / issues and awareness of current professional issues and developments within organ donation, nursing and the NHS

Qualifications and Training

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse
  • Adult
  • Relevant post graduate degree or equivalent qualification in a health or related field OR job related experience equivalent to post graduate degree level.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
  • Possession of a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK
