The Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Surgeon.


The post is based at the Royal site and is to join an enthusiastic team dedicated to providing a high quality Urology service.

This hospital is a designated Urological Cancer Centre with specialist MDTs for prostate, bladder, kidney and testis cancer.

We also undertake prostate biopsy, bladder botox injections, lithotripsy and cystodiathermy within the department. The Hospital has excellent interventional and imaging radiology support and an on-site nuclear medicine department.


The post is equivalent to 10PAs per week inclusive of 1.5 SPA time allocated to undertake all necessary continuing professional development (CPD).

The Trust supports the requirements for CPD as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.


Prospective applicants must be on, or within 6 months of entry to, the specialist registrar, have the FRCS (Urol) and be fully registered with the GMC.

A higher degree will also be an advantage.

The post will include the management of general Urology and Renal Cancer.


The appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate teaching for any medical and dental students attached to the Unit.

In addition the appointee will be expected to
play an active role in postgraduate teaching.


A monthly audit meeting is held on a programme determined by the Trust, at which attendance and active participation is expected.

The Trust also holds a weekly Grand Round and the appointee will be asked to present on an annual basis.

The post will primarily include the surgical management of bladder cancer.

Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, CESR or European
Community Rights. Proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of
interview. The post holder should also hold FRCS (Urol) or equivalent.
