Child and Family Trauma Therapist, Children's Trauma Therapy Service

Based in central Bradford

37 hours per week (full time)

Grade 3 point 20-28: £27,490 - £34,413 per annum (Starting salary dependent on qualifications / accreditation / experience.)

Temporary Contract:
Initially for 12 months from starting date with the possibility to extend depending on funding

We are looking for a qualified, registered therapist to work with children who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse, traumatic grief, domestic abuse or one or more adverse childhood events.

We deliver therapy, focusing on recovery from the effects of trauma.

Our therapists are trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including Dance-Movement Therapy, Dramatherapy, Art Therapy, Integrative Counselling, Family Therapy and Child Psychotherapy.


Your Skills and Experience:
You will be a qualified, registered therapist with additional training/experience in working with children. You will be skilled in working with complex trauma or keen to develop your therapeutic skills in this area. You will be trauma-focused in your approach and have experience of working with children, young people and their parents/carers. You may have additional clinical training in a specific trauma and/or attachment focused therapy (e.g. EMDR, TF-CBT, TF-Play Therapy, DDP, Theraplay).

You will be able to think systemically about inter-generational trauma with an understanding of the different presentation and therapeutic recovery needs of children at different ages and stages.

You will be committed to high quality therapy standards with a passion for using your therapy skills to facilitate good outcomes.

Summary of job:


To offer trauma therapy in an attachment frame to children who have experienced sexual abuse, domestic abuse, traumatic grief and one or more of the ACES.

To work with parents, carers and professionals to develop their understanding of the impact of trauma, improving outcomes and support for affected children.


Key tasks and responsibilities:
Undertake assessments of clinical need, taking into account children's developmental, attachment, trauma and cultural needs.


Working to a clear plan, provide outcomes-focused trauma and attachment therapy with a focus on recovery with children and families who have experienced sexual abuse, domestic abuse traumatic grief or one or more of the ACES.


To take part in multi-agency meetings, including Child in Need and Child Protection meetings, care planning meetings with other health professionals and safeguarding reviews.


Provide information and assist with the production of reports and monitoring, including case studies of therapy, as required by our funders.

Consult with families who use our service and incorporate their views within service development.


Ensure all work is carried out to Family Action minimum standards and is designed and delivered to maximise agreed outcomes.


Ensure that the needs and views of children young people are at the heart of everything we do: offering holistic and child-centred interventions which are appropriate to their clinical needs, including referrals into other services as appropriate.
