Band 4 Nursing Associates:

Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be accountable to the registered nurses they work with

Be accountable as professionals registered with the NMC and work to the Code for Nurses, Midwives and Nursing Associates

Promote health and prevent ill health

Provide and monitor care

Work to improve safety and the quality of care

As a Nursing Associate you may be expected to practice any of the skills listed in the NMC Standards of Proficiency skills annexes or be responsible for the care delivered to a number of service users but you will always be supervised by a registered nurse and receive support from the wider multi-disciplinary team

The post-holder will be responsible for delivering a high standard of sexual and reproductive health care to patients. This will include nurse associate led clinics under supervision of a registered nurse for Sexual Health. Supporting the wider team to ensure we can deliver excellent care to our service users.


The CNWL Integrated Sexual Health Service is made up of highly motivated and passionate teams with extensive experience and expertise in sexual health and contraception.

The team at Mortimer Market Centre is friendly and dedicated to continually developing the role of the nurse.

The Nursing Associate will:


Maintain high standard of nursing care and service provision for the prevention, treatment and management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV and other blood borne infections.

Line manage others if appropriate within the team structure (Band 3)

To be competent in agreed clinical skills relevant to this area of work e.g. microscopy, venepuncture, cryotherapy, cervical cytology, IUC removal, sexual history taking, and genital assessment of all genders.

To advise patients in relation to STIs, HIV and BBV prevention and sexual health maintenance.

Taking patient observations and measurements including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight as required

Chaperoning and assisting clinicians with examination and procedures for male and female patients

To promote sexual health and wellbeing through advice and information giving.

To assist in the setup of clinics, maintaining equipment and order.

To work closely with external agencies to ensure coordination between services.

To undertake outreach work as necessary.

To provide sexual health consultation for asymptomatic and non-complex cases.

To obtain clear and relevant histories from patients.

To examine patients and obtain appropriate clinical line with competencies and role.

Clinical experience in HIV/GUM field including vaccinations

To observe the HIV testing policy.


To carry out point of care testing for HIV, other STI's, urinalysis and pregnancy testing, managing negative results and referring patients to senior clinician if results are reactive or abnormal.


To arrange prescription of treatments and safely administer/supply these as prescribed and agreed within NMC Standards and CNWL Medicines Policy, following completion of medication competency test as per policy.


To have a good knowledge of all contraception methods, correctly referring on for emergency contraception and on-going methods, including quick starting.

Take part in partner notification processes.

To maintain clinical case notes (electronic patient records) to a high standard


To recognise signs and symptoms of complex and unstable health problems requiring review of from the Registered Nurse or Medical Doctor.

To observe clinical policies, protocols and working guidelines.
