Role/ Department:


Sitting within the Custody Transitions and Account Services (CTAS) division of Northern Trust, the global transitions team has a presence in London, Chicago, Bangalore and Manila and are responsible for the smooth and timely transition of clients' assets within Northern Trust custody.


The TBA (transfer between accounts) and Inspecie team within the Transitions group are responsible for all internal transfers of custody positions between client portfolios and the delivery and receipt of assets from and to external fund managers on behalf of existing clients redeeming and subscribing from/to pooled fund structures.


The team are responsible for the successful coordination of this transition activity and partners are required to meet and liaise with internal NT partners such as Client Services, Corporate Actions, Settlements and IMLG groups as well as NT clients, transition managers and investment managers.

The team also provides back up support for the on boarding and to the New Business team during busy periods.


As a Consultant you will be trained to be the clients' first point of reference for Operational activity to ensure the successful and timely settlement of TBA/Inspecie activity to a high level of client satisfaction.


The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Responsible for the coordination of TBA and In specie transition events.
  • Responsible for the timely instruction of the loading of securities and cash to Northern Trust's Custody systems.
  • Instructing and coordinating with other internal NT transition teams globally on a daily basis and ensuring tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner
  • Responsible for all settlement and outstanding issues and the efficient and timely resolution of any outstanding trade instructions/reconciliation exceptions.
  • Participation in Transition event planning/review meetings as required by the Investment Manager/Client.
  • Acting as a point of contact and SME on Transition related issues for high profile NT clients such as Blackrock Global Investors and PPF.
  • Reconcilement of clients' portfolios and Transition events.
  • Ensuring that where appropriate stamp duty and transaction taxes are paid in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that required documentation such as Letters of Direction are received and retained for audit purposes.
  • Cash and stock reconciliations monitoring and clearing own entries created by TBA's and In specie events

Skills/ Qualifications:


  • Industry experience for a role within a high profile client facing team
  • An understanding of Global Custody
  • Transitions, Settlements or Client Services experience
  • Financial qualifications desirable but not essential
  • Good time management/prioritisation skills
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Team focused
  • Excellent attention to detail
