Flexible working - 2 days per week in the office ideally
Working on Planning Maintenance Schemes - footways, roads, pavements etc)

Our client is responsible for managing, maintaining and improving their road network.

This includes 3,000 miles of carriageways, 1,800 bridges, 3,300 miles of footway, over 600 sets of traffic lights, drainage, grass verges etc.

Their total budge is over £150,000,000 - a combination of revenue and capital funding.


The purpose of the role is to deliver a number of allocated carriageway and footway schemes as part of the Highway Engineering Teams annual programme.


Qualifications:


  • Appropriate technical qualification at Degree, HND or HNC level.
  • May require a specialist technical qualification or membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Practical or professional experience and understanding of a specialist area or supporting service teams and/or providing support to the public.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, with solution focused problem solving skills.
  • Proven written and oral communication with the ability to engage and work in collaboration with others.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computerised business systems.
  • A full valid driving licence.
The Project Engineer will support the design and delivery of the annual and 5 year maintenance and improvement programmes. This would be for carriageway and footways in the Highway Engineering Team.

The post holder will also support emergency, routine and minor planned maintenance

Although the post holder will not have direct responsibility for line management they may be required to provide mentoring/giving advice to help with the development of junior colleagues


The post holder will ensure the effective delivery of schemes and will act as the client representative to ensure projects are delivered to agreed design, time, cost, quality and contract requirements, and that safety and best practice standards are met.


The post holder will provide administrative and technical support for Project Engineers to ensure projects are delivered to time, quality and contract requirements and that safety and best practice standards are met.

The post holder will be required to develop skills, competencies and gain relevant experience, technical and professional qualifications in civil, highway or structural engineering.


The role holder will be responsible for monitoring the budget of their individual schemes, which could be between £5k and £200k, but this may vary depending on size and complexity of schemes.

They would also be supporting senior engineers and team leaders in the overall team budget responsibility of between approximately £3m and £10m.

Design Walk and Talk through schemes with the contractors, Also discuss Materials and Civil needs.
