An exciting opportunity has arisen within Maternity and Child Health, for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly, professional Governance Team.


This post offers the opportunity to work in a challenging and changing environment while gaining wide experience across the governance agenda by supporting the directorate (s) in all aspects of safety, incidents, complaints, risk and governance issues, and improving patient care and experience through analysing risk, trending incidents, identifying areas for learning and sharing good practice.


Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) and ideally with a background from a governance related area, you will be committed to improve standards of quality.


The post holder will have good knowledge and understanding of Governance in a healthcare setting and will have responsibility of facilitating all aspects of the Governance process.


Attention to detail is a critical element of the role and therefore we are looking to recruit a person who will be highly organised and able to work within tight deadlines whilst managing competing priorities.


You will be required to be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office; with the ability to produce high quality reports.

This is a 37.5-hour post based at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary but may require working across all sites.

No on call duty required

The Governance Facilitator supports the systems and processes that underpin all aspects of quality, patient experience, safety and risk management in the Directorate of Women & Children's Services including but not limited to the following:

  • Clinical quality and the delivery of safe/compassionate care
  • CQC, outcomes and action plans
  • Patient safety
  • Risk and incident assessment and management
  • Patient experience / Complaints
  • Incident management via DATIX
  • Quality metrics / database management
  • Health and Safety
  • Information Governance
  • Education Panel requirements
  • National drivers in maternity and child health services

On-Call


Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.


  • To facilitate and promote patient safety and learning from incidents.
  • To be responsible for the circulation of Central Alerting System (CAS) alerts across the division and ensuring timely responses provided.
  • To utilise the Datix incident reporting system to ensure that incidents are reported and managed in line with the Trust Incident and Investigation policy.
  • To action/assist in the daily review of incidents raising trends, identifying and escalating issues identified.
  • To support the analysis of complex clinical and nonclinical incident data and provide reports identifying trends for directorates.
  • To ensure that any incidents that may require further investigation are escalated to the Head/Deputy Head of Governance.
  • To facilitate the investigation process e.g. complaints, incidents, case reviews as required.
  • To ensure that action plans as a result of an incident, complaint, investigation or risk assessment are monitored and delivered with noncompliance escalated to the relevant specialty governance meetings and/or relevant divisional governance meetings.
  • To be responsible for ensuring risk assessments are undertaken, recorded via Datix on relevant risk register, monitored and reviewed regularly.
  • To support Health and Safety activities and adherence to health and safety guidance.
  • To contribute to the development of systems and processes to promote effectiveness and embed learning as a result of service improvement projects.
  • To contribute to the Clinical Audit and Clinical Effectiveness agenda to address National/Trust/Local priorities for the division.
  • To support the NICE Guidance Coordinator in relation to the implementation of NICE Guidance and clinical guidelines within designated clinical teams.
  • To be responsible for the monitoring of divisional policies and to support individual authors in ensuring new or reviewed polices taken through the appropriate approval process in accordance with Trust policy.
  • To assist the Divisional Head/Deputy Head of Governance in production of divisional and specialty data.
