Medical Research Council
£20,129
Full time or Part time (minimum 30 hours per week)
Open Ended
Swindon (trialling hybrid working)**The role is based in the Swindon office however MRC are trialling hybrid office-home working.

The Swindon office is based in the Polaris House Campus and offers collaborative working space, staff canteen, free parking, bike sheds, changing rooms and 10-minute walk from Swindon town centre.


Skills, Qualification and Experience

Essential:


  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and experience of managing multiple activities
  • Good prioritization skills and confident working to tight deadlines
  • Experience of working independently
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with a range of colleagues and external contacts
  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team
  • To work in a flexible way and be confident in managing change
  • Ability to work proactively and use initiative to deliver results
  • Working knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Literacy and numerical skills e.g.4/C Grade in GCSE Maths and English or equivalent

Desirable:


  • Knowledge of UKRI and grant processing
  • Knowledge of Siebel, Oracle, Zoom and Microsoft Teams

Specific tasks you will deliver include:

  • Identifying and managing conflicts in peer review
  • Collating papers for meetings
  • Liaising with MRC staff to ensure smooth running of funding meetings
  • Attending funding meetings (in person and virtually) to assist with logistics
  • Responding to questions from the external research community
  • Raising purchase orders
  • Managing information and records on the inhouse filing system, ensuring that documents are filed correctly and updated as necessary
  • Engage proactively with the crossmatrix resource model providing support for additional MRC funding calls and other projects
  • Carrying out other administrative duties, as required

Close working relationships will be required with:

  • Applicants for MRC funding
  • Peer reviewers and those who select peer reviewers
  • MRC staff, including:
  • Board and Panel Management teams
  • Research Funding and Policy Delivery team
  • Heads of Themes and Programme Managers within the Board/Panel teams
  • Board, Panel and Project Committee members
  • UKRI staff
