Fundraising continues to be Age UK's most vital and significant source of income, powering all that we do to help older people most in need.


Age UK's award-winning fundraising division are recruiting for a
Head of Statutory & Trust Fundraising to refresh our national statutory funding strategy in line with Age UK's new charity strategy.

The successful post-holder will also oversee our well-established trusts team, as they deliver our ambitious plans to grow and retain our portfolio of engaged and committed trust and foundation funding partners.


In this rare opportunity, you would use your expertise to drive Age UK's statutory and trusts fundraising team to achieve the significant income growth that we know is possible in this area.


This impactful role would suit an ambitious, strategic thinker with a wealth of statutory and grants fundraising experience at leadership level and a genuine passion for supporting older people.


We ask all members of Age UK's Partnerships and Philanthropy department to work from our London hub at least once a week to enable collaboration, skills development and team dynamics (currently Thursdays).
This role will on occasions require travel outside of London and working outside of normal office hours e.g. for funder events and cultivation.

Must haves:

  • Extensive experience fundraising for a national charity from national government departments, nondepartmental grant givers. Experience of trust fundraising is also highly desirable.
  • Experience empowering statutory and grants fundraising teams to work at pace to deliver multimillion income targets and build longterm meaningful relationships with funders. This should include proven success setting effective processes and KPIs to drive performance.
  • Experience building strategies for statutory and grants fundraising. Plus, a proven ability to think on a longterm strategic level and to achieve longterm sustainable income growth.
  • Experience optimising CRM databases for pipeline and relationship management
  • Proven success developing complex restricted fundraising bids that have secured six and seven figure multiyear investment from statutory funding bodies and ideally charitable trusts and foundations also.
  • Proven ability to build confidence through productive and effective relationships with internal stakeholders, including those at senior level.
  • Proven outstanding donorfacing and relationship management skills including demonstrable ability to lead complex negotiations between charity and funder.
  • Solid experience managing grants fundraising team budgets (income and expenditure) including multiyear forecasting, quarterly reforecasting, accurate and realistic income phasing.

Great to haves:


  • Excellent knowledge of grants and trusts best practice including compliance, due diligence, grant agreements and legal considerations.
  • A curious mind. We are seeking someone with excellent knowledge of their funding landscape, who is proactively abreast of innovation and developments within this area and the opportunities these could present to Age UK.
  • A keen interest in the wider fundraising mix and an ability to work with leaders across other fundraising and income generating functions to generate the most income in the round.
  • A genuine passion to join Age UK in supporting older people and a belief the partnerships with statutory funders, trusts and foundations are critical to achieving our strategic goals.
