About the role


This newly created role will develop and lead plans and initiatives that deliver efficient and effective Operations functions enabling further sustainable growth and promoting B Lab UK's culture and values.

You will support and positively influence people, teams, and our ways of working through initiatives and continuous improvement of the organisation's key business processes and activities.


Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

Cross-Organisational:

  • Lead the creation and/or improvement of business management systems, processes and best practices, optimising integration, efficiency and staff experience.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual Business Planning process to enable implementation of an integrated plan, performance monitoring, and timely corrective action, challenging the impact in delivering our strategy.
  • Collaborate and engage staff to maintain a culture of inclusion, ambition and high performance as we grow.
  • Coordinate learning reviews of key projects and initiatives across the organisation, championing a learning culture and actively promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Work with peers to lead delivery of B Lab UK's strategy and business plan
  • Work with B Lab Global and the global network to ensure B Lab UK's voice is heard, interests met and to share initiatives and best practice
  • Deputise for the Director of Finance & Operations when required.

Leadership of Operations initiatives:

  • Support the Director in creating and delivering the Finance, Operations and People Strategy to support the organisational strategy, performance and impact, with clear action plans and timely objectives.
  • Collaboratively create initiatives and programmes that deliver the strategy across the Operations functions, overseeing their implementation and monitoring delivery.
  • Lead key Operations initiatives ensuring that objectives and integrated activities are likely to deliver organisational goals, remove barriers, and support, guide and coach project managers ensuring quality delivery.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other departments and team members to create synergies with other projects and activities across the organisation.

Operations management:

  • Oversee and monitor daily operations, addressing potential issues when they arise
  • Line manage staff who deliver daily operations and projects, motivating and developing
  • Oversee the implementation of technology solutions throughout the organisation
  • Oversee and facilitate contracts and relationships with external suppliers and outsourced activities (landlords, IT services, insurers, key suppliers, consultants) and partners.
  • Lead the implementation of efficient business processes, standards and ways of working designed by the Finance & Operations team and ensure they are used consistently and effectively across the organisation
  • Ensure the organisation's processes and policies remain legally compliant (e.g. data protection, H&S) and best practice.

Essential skills and experience:


  • Proven track record of translating strategic objectives into plans, activities and successful delivery
  • Operational management experience across several business functions such IT, HR, facilities, finance, planning and programme or project management.
  • Experience of establishing and improving business processes and effective ways of working
  • Leading or coordinating cross organisational planning or strategy processes
  • Effective communications skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to manage multiple demands
  • Comfortable working collaboratively and leading nonreports enabling them to deliver
  • Analytical thinker with problem solving skills.
  • Able to lead, motivate and manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Experienced in working and reacting in a fast paced and changing environment
