The People team at Calor Gas are looking to recruit an engaging and proactive Payroll Assistant


The role holder will support the Payroll Manager to deliver a comprehensive, accurate and timely payroll service to the business ensuring that all of Calor's statutory obligations are met.


This role will be responsible for ensuring that monthly and annual payroll data is accurately administered, reconciled and balanced including overtime and other standard monthly payroll submissions.


Key responsibilities will include:


  • Processing and running of the monthly employee payroll including fixed and all variable pay elements such as overtime, pension enrolment, updating tax documents
  • Supporting the Payroll Manager with the processes in an accurate and timely manner, for example P11D and PAYE submissions; ensuring that all relevant documentation is completed and submitted and payments are made within HMRC timeframes. Involving and coordinating stakeholders if necessary to ensure task completion on time
  • Run the Tax yearend process; ensuring that all relevant documentation is completed and submitted and payments are made within HMRC timeframes, obtaining necessary signoffs where required
  • Helping the Payroll Manager to balance monthly payroll accounts and submitting reports to the Company's accounting department and ensuring that correct payments are made to external bodies (for example, the CSA or payment of CCJs)
  • Staying up to date with any potential payroll/tax implications to existing or proposed legislation, proposing feasible and logical solutions
  • Working with the Payroll Manager/Workday Specialist in identifying and resolving technical issues relating to Workday Payroll

As such we would like you to have/be:

  • Confident and proficient in using computerised payroll databases, experience in Workday system in particular would be beneficial
  • Experience of a similar sized payroll (circa 2000 employees)
  • IT literate, having reached a competent level in MS Office with advanced Excel skills
  • Effective communication and influencing skills
  • Able to work under own initiative, with a proactive approach
  • Analytical and numerate.
  • A team player with a flexible approach to work duties.
  • Tenacity to investigate and fully resolve payrollrelated problems.
  • Accurate with an attention to detail
  • Educated to A-Level standard desirable
  • Payroll qualification (IPPM/CIPP) desirable
