Hours of Work:

Core hours are between 8am-5pm, with a high degree of flexibility required to meet the demands of the business.


Main Purpose of the role:
Leads, empowers and develops the Finance team. Assume full responsibility for all aspects of the Company's finance function. Monitor actual performance against budget, explain variances against budget and previous year and advise on any required action.

Developing all necessary policies and procedures to ensure the sound financial management and control of the company's business


This role is based at our Motherwell Head Office but regular travel to our Depots will be required to deliver the role.

Making up the other areas of the business are our Fuelcard division - Fleetmaxx Solutions, our AdBlue manufacturing plant, our lubricants division, our vehicle tracking division and our telecoms division.

It is the responsibility of the Head of Finance to:

  • Prepare annual budgets and support the business in achieving these budgets
  • Provide financial input to the Management Board on special projects
  • Management of procedures and systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial information
  • Monitor actual performance against budget, explain variances against budget and previous year and advise on any required action.
  • Manage working capital
  • Liaise with external tax advisers
  • To lead coach and mentor direct reports as part of the company's ongoing succession strategy, providing motivational leadership to assist with personal and professional development
  • To assist with people matters, such as recruitment and selection, absence and performance management, training and development and culture and engagement.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the company's business objectives by providing advice and guidance on financial strategy.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to the company's managers and staff to enable them to achieve their objectives.
  • Oversee the preparation of the company's financial accounts to ensure that these are presented accurately and on time.
  • Oversee the payroll function to ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Working with your team to ensure achievement of objectives and targets and continuously develop improvement initiatives

  • Works logically and systematically to solve problems, make decisions and think laterally and flexibly with the ability to manage sustainable change
  • Strong leadership with demonstrative experience of providing coaching and mentoring to aid personal and professional development
  • Commercially astute
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team, as well as manage people: excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Problem solving and working on your own initiative is essential for this role.

Requirements:


  • Accountancy qualification
  • CA, ACCA, CIMA
  • Ability to lead and motivate a small team
  • Ability to form good working relations with all internal stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills with experience of working alongside a Senior Leadership Team.
  • Will suit someone with inhouse finance experience
  • Experience of working within the fuel industry (or similar) would be desirable but is not essential
  • Full UK driving licence is essential
