Health & Safety Manager

Construction North is part of the UK Construction business and includes the Midlands, the North and Scotland.

Projects on average range between £5 - £50 million and are primarily based in the Public Sector with some projects in the Private Sector.

Sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health and Commercial offices. We have a strong pipeline of projects in our Scotland construction business in particular in the drinks sector.

The opportunity


The Health & Safety Advisor will be responsible for oversight of Health & Safety across the live projects in Scotland.

This will primarily involve travel to the project sites which are in the Highlands / Speyside and Fife area.

Role Purpose


The HSQ&E Department are looking for a HSQ&E Advisor to implement and manage the company's health, safety, quality and environmental system and to provide general support throughout the division.

Key accountabilities

  • Assist in the preparation, review and approval of Site Health and Safety Plans.
  • Provide guidance on all aspects of safety, health, welfare and fire prevention matters.
  • Advise and assist in the identification of hazards and the preparation of risk assessments and safety method statements.
  • Review and approve method statements for high risk operations.
  • Advise and assist CMs and TSMs in onsite safety training of operatives including induction and tool box talks.
  • Provide training to staff and/or operatives.
  • Plan and carry out HSQ&E audits and inspections of sites and departments.
  • Issue written reports on the results of their site safety inspections or safety audits.
  • Investigate accidents and produce comprehensive investigation report identifying root causes and proposing recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure that all reportable incidents have been notified to HSE and that a copy of Form 2508 has been filed with the internal accident report.
  • Liaise with the Principle Designer and client
  • Liaise with Health and Safety Executive
  • Identify, propose and implement methods of improving performance.
  • Attend 4 weekly HSQE Planning meetings and other site meetings when required
  • Ensure project assurance related risks are identified, assessed and managed
  • Carry out Construction Management System (IMS) audits at our sites and hub offices to ensure compliance to company health, safety, quality & environmental procedures.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of improvements to our systems and processes.
  • Assist with the updating of the company CMS.
  • Assist with training staff and suppliers on company CMS
Skills & experience

The job holder will be self-managing and able to prioritise their workload. Working at all levels, they will be a confident and articulate communicator

  • Background in the construction industry including demolition, refurbishment and fit out.
  • Highlevel understanding of construction health and safety legislation

  • Knowledge of OHSAS 18001 / ISO9001 / ISO1400
  • Advanced knowledge of Word. Excel, PowerPoint and the internet.
  • Organisational skills and workload prioritising.
  • Able to deal with staff, clients and external customers.
  • Environmental awareness

Qualifications:


  • Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma standard or equivalent.
  • Chartered or working towards
