About the Role


The Apprentice will support the work of the council by participating in and contributing to the delivery of services and projects allocated and supported by their supervisor and manager.

The Apprentice will undertake formal learning and be rolled onto the relevant apprenticeship programme, with the chosen learning provider (e.g. college/university).


The Apprentice will be in the healthy Cornwall mid team coma part of the public health team, which deal with the following areas: support and health improvement support across mid Cornwall to encourage all residents to make healthy lifestyle choices that will have a positive influence on physical and mental well-being.


The Apprentice will contribute to the work of the team by: taking a targeted approach to reduce health inequalities working with individuals and communities with the most need, situated in areas of high deprivation or those who are socially excluded.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual who wants to make a real difference within our communities.


Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations).

This is a 3 year fixed term contract to cover apprenticeship and may represent a suitable secondment opportunity for existing Cornwall Council employees.

About You
The post will support the mid team by undertaking responsibility for the following duties:

  • An ability to take a community development approach and build strong working relationships with the people and organisations in community and professional settings.
  • An ability to motivate an inspire behaviour change in individuals who may initially be resistant to change in order to facilitate health improvement.
  • Supporting health improvement practitioners with a range of activities which include face to face support in a variety of settings and online delivery, with all life stages.
  • Relevant skills and knowledge to support service users to make healthier food choices and lose weight sustainably.
  • Relevant skills and knowledge to advise clients on how to successfully and safely increase physical activity.
  • You will provide smoking cessation advice and support in small groups and individually.
  • Booking venues for events and delivery.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work both individually and as part of a team towards shared objectives and individual work streams.
  • Able to work flexibly across the week including a commitment to work in regular evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Support and deliver training; deliver engaging and informative healthy eating sessions within the programme of work, using key information from the Eatwell guide.
  • Attending team and lifestyle meetings.
  • To work flexibly within the role profile and carry out other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager.
