£60,000 to £70,000 depending upon experience

The Role

The Director of Admissions and Marketing will have responsibility for all aspects of pupil admissions to the School and all aspects of marketing, public relations and communications.

The Director of Admissions and Marketing has responsibility for the successful recruitment of pupils throughout the School and the strategic marketing policy and its implementation.

The post-holder will work across both the Senior and Prep Schools and focus on the recruitment of pupils who will flourish in, and contribute positively to, the academic, pastoral, musical and co-curricular life of the School.


Given the role's primary focus, this role will ideally suit an experienced admissions and recruitment professional; any marketing or communications experience they can additionally offer will be valuable, as will any experience of an educational, and ideally an independent education sector, background.

Strategic Planning:


  • Work closely with the Head Master, the Head of the Prep School and the Director of Music to develop and deliver a coherent pupil recruitment strategy in order to meet or exceed annual recruitment targets
  • Work closely with senior colleagues and the Marketing team to develop a coherent marketing and communications strategy in order to promote the School to a wide variety of audiences
  • As a member of the Senior Management Team, support the continued development and review of a clearly articulated vision for what a Wells Cathedral School education is, based on an understanding of the School's ethos and aims, the requirements of current and prospective parents, and the perceptions of the School and its competitors
  • Continue to develop an understanding of the local area including its demographics, economic and social profile and school provision in order to inform pupil recruitment for the day market
  • Continue to develop an understanding of the UK boarding market in order to inform recruitment of UK boarders
  • Continue to develop an understanding of international recruitment markets in order to inform international pupil recruitment

Admissions and Recruitment

Oversee the Pupil Admissions function of the School and work with the Registrar with regards to the management of the admissions process to ensure that recruitment objectives are met, all necessary communication - both internally and externally - is efficient and appropriate, and the School's reputation and image are enhanced by all recruitment activities.


  • Have overall responsibility for the Admissions Team (currently four staff members)
  • Coordinate and control the implementation of the Pupil Recruitment plan and associated budget
  • Regularly review and monitor the effectiveness of the Pupil Recruitment strategy and Admissions processes in order to continuously improve our activities
  • Attend (or arrange for colleagues to attend) boarding workshops, exhibitions and recruitment fairs in the UK and overseas
  • Arrange visits from educational agents to the School
  • Where appropriate, interview prospective pupils to assess their suitability for the
  • Identify, regularly evaluate and develop relationships with key educational agents across the world
  • Strengthen our relationship with and understanding of feeder schools to ensure
Wells is well-positioned in their thinking

  • Represent Wells at events at feeder schools
  • With the Registrar and Head of Boarding, be responsible for managing places for both UK and international boarders, including recruitment and monitoring numbers and available spaces to maximise the number of boarders
  • Ensure that the Admissions Office is fully integrated and engaged with all aspects of the School's life;
  • Be responsible for all policies which pertain to pupil Admissions and entry to
Wells

  • Take responsibility for the entry procedures at the Prep School and at 11+, 13+, and
16+ in the Senior School, and for Choristers, working closely with keyWells staff including where appropriate Music Department administrators and Chorister
Co-ordinator

  • Be responsible for all Open Mornings and Open Events working with colleagues across the School to deliver events which engage visitors and promote the School in the best ways possible
  • Promote and administer the Scholarship process, with the Head of Academic
Enrichment

  • Develop and maintain whole staff awareness of the importance of Admissions and their responsibilities within its process
  • Work with teaching colleagues to monitor the effectiveness and appropriateness of Wells entrance assessments, overseeing the results and administering their delivery
