Role Overview:

  • The Shift Leader independently operates four instruments and conducts all processing tasks. The incumbent serves as the primary mentor, leader, and trainer on the production floor for his/her shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operate instruments and conduct all processing tasks


This includes:


  • Prepare for the production process.
  • Participate in continuous operational improvement.
  • Work with coworkers and manager to effectively troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
  • Understand the theory and concepts behind the technology and processes.
  • Anticipate potential problems and take preventative action.
  • Review documentation and check all calculations (e.g. tickets, labels, equipment reading).
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems.
  • Comply with safety requirements, SOPs, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Use of automation to perform production operations.
  • Provide detailed documentation.
  • Provide regular communication (both verbal and/or written) within operations
  • Support formal and informal training programs including new hire training and advanced technician training.
  • Identify individual training needs and recommend staff for additional training.
  • Provide on the job coaching and training to address remedial technical gaps.
  • Assist with productions projects as assigned.
  • Regularly check equipment and report equipment not operating efficiently.
  • Monitor shift supplies and communicate inventory issues in a timely manner.
  • Serve as lean ambassador as well as change/health & safety and quality champion for the production floor.
  • Strive and develop new skills. Assume greater responsibility within the department and organization.
  • Promote a culture of health and safety by ensuring all employees follow the company's biosecurity policies.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace and encourage others to do the same.
  • Ensure production is running smoothly.
  • Delegate responsibilities and assign daily duties.
  • Escalate issues the technician is unable to resolve.
  • Follow up on problems to ensure tasks are managed to conclusion.
  • Lead shift meeting and present relevant updates.
  • Monitor quality and address quality issues within scope of ability.

Requirements:


  • Educated to GCSE level or Secondary school equivalent.
  • Some experience of Supervisory with an FMCG / Lab environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Display solid performance standards, be reliable and dependable.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Poses a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to be a positive leader.
  • Strong attention to detail and respect for quality assurance. Understand & promotes Right First-Time principles.
