Description

The role
As a Design Lead you'll lead designers across multiple programmes of work to deliver complex services.

You'll be responsible for consistency of design quality, be an escalation point for problems, and influence senior stakeholders through building their understanding and support of design in agile.


What you'll do within our teams

  • Oversee multiple programmes of work, each made up of multiple projects
  • Represent UCD excellence for all design roles, leading on quality and best practice for all design roles through coaching and mentoring teams
  • Collaborate with your leadership peer group to tackle process and operational challenges
  • Mentor and line manage senior designers
  • Support recruitment, resourcing and allocation for upcoming project pipelines
  • Ensure consistency of quality in delivery through peer reviews and assessments
  • Review project and team change proposals and recommend actions and next steps
  • Be an escalation point for challenges within teams and across programmes
  • Facilitate discussions across highrisk and complex areas or projects under constrained timelines

You'll suit this role if you:

  • Have experience in a design leadership role
  • Have mentoring and coaching experience
  • Are comfortable adapting to competing constraints and requirements
  • Can make and justify decisions about highrisk, highimpact problems
  • Can facilitate discussions in complex and timepressured situations
  • Can engage and influence at all levels
  • Can use your initiative to identify problems or issues in team dynamics and solve them
  • Unblock issues and resolve conflict with empathy and skill
  • Have a strong understanding of GDS and designing to government service standards
