Pastoral Support Officer

REPORTS TO:
All Heads of Year's /Assistant Headteacher responsibility for Student Behavior

Band 3 Max; point 6-18


PAYSCALE:

Starting on point 9- Actual salary £21,983.84 per annum


LOCATION Royal Docks Academy

37 hours per week

TERMS:39 weeks per year, 38 weeks plus 5 inset days

Hours: 8am to 4pm - 35 mins lunch each day

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To be a highprofile advocate of all students within the academy working alongside the Pastoral Team.
  • To work with the Pastoral Team /HOY to ensure an effective transition between the Primary
Phase and Royal Docks Academy, helping to support yr 7 pupils.

  • Providing outstanding pastoral care, guidance and fostering positive links between home and the Academy working closely with parents/carers to ensure every student will thrive and succeed
  • Managing behavior and uniform on a day to day basis, working as a key member of the pastoral team.
  • Supporting the promotion of the SMSC priorities for the Academy.

Liaison with

  • The postholder will be expected to liaise with Heads of Year, Form Tutors, all Academy Staff,
BMAT staff, Students, Parents, Visitors and External Agencies

  • To be proactive in dealing with any issues relating to attendance or punctuality.
  • To implement the school's late policy both to school and lessons, including supervising students for lateness.
  • Working to reduce, persistent lateness of individual pupils, establishing clear lines of communication with pupils and parents.
  • Have a high presence in the morning assisting with late desk and covering when the CPLO is unavailable, making rounds of all form groups, checking uniforms, and any issues surrounding students arriving late to class.
  • Follow up on student punctuality and attendance to lessons and take appropriate action to address truancy.
  • Dealing with daytoday students' issues, providing support as appropriate for students and their parents where relevant.
  • Maintain accurate records of day to day issues arising, such as concerns dips in behaviour, poor uniform and or persistent failure to have correct equipment.
  • Communicate regularly with the Pastoral Team, liaising with Form Tutors and produce weekly reports for all HOY's as well as sharing information through pastoral briefing.
  • Through data analysis and your own monitoring systems work with heads of year to assign reports to each Tutor group.
  • Where escalation is required communicate this to Parents.
  • Ensuring that more serious incidents are referred to HOY and AHT, that school systems and procedures are followed, and that records are kept of all bullying and racist incidents.
  • To make sure that all behavior incidents are fully investigated, take witness statements and to summerise findings and then ensure this is passed to the relevant HOY.
  • Represent HOY's in meetings with parents
  • Supervise groups of students in detention and undertake break and lunch duties as required.
  • Provide information for multiagency meetings as requested.
  • Actively promote positive behavior and be proactive in dealing with any issues relating to poor behaviour.
  • Interviewing students following incidents and updating incident logs
  • Manage the inclusion of students who face behaviour challenges throughout the day by providing appropriate intervention and nurture.
  • Work closely with parents/carers on all aspects of student's attendance and behaviour and involve them as partners in the drive to ensure their child thrives and achieves.
  • Work collaboratively with other key staff (SENCo, Curriculum Leaders, SLT) in the Academy and external agencies to support behaviour for learning.
  • Monitor detentions and support the followup of nonattendance, including sending parent txts re non
- attenders, updating sims and running required reports.

  • To structure and implement mentoring for key students/key groups, forming action plans for sustained progress.
  • Support the Pastoral Team and Leaders in monitoring the effective delivery of effective support to all students.
  • Support Heads of Year to monitor participation in form time activities, especially reading.
  • Develop effective partnerships with families tailored to individual needs provide opportunities for parents/carers to engage with the School.
  • Support and challenge parents to ensure their child adheres to the uniform policy
  • Initiate EHA and act as Lead Professional for students within the Academy who require one.
  • Communicate effectively with other agencies e.g. police, Children 's Services.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies and organisations to manage improvements in behaviour and attendance
