Venue-based - most of your time will be spent in our venue on Bristol Harbourside interacting directly with visitors.

Salary:
£12 per hour starting salary, rising to £12.40 per hour after passing probation, and £13.17 per hour upon completion of progression milestones.


Contract:18 Month, fixed term


Working hours:

Different contracts available, 23.25 hours per week, worked over three days per week, 9am-5.15pm and 31 hours per week, worked over four days per week 9am-5.15pm.


Regular shifts are usually worked Tuesday -Sunday - We require that you work 3 out of 4 weekends of the month - both Saturday and Sunday - in a regular pattern.

There will be Monday shifts during Schools holidays, and occasional Monday term time training days. There will be the chance to work some evening events, including presenting our weekly Planetarium nights shows.

A fixed schedule of shifts can be discussed.

About the role

As We the Curious gets ready to re-open, the Live Science Team are recruiting new team members This is a really exciting time for We the Curious, and for our team, as we work towards welcoming back our visitors and members, and re-acquainting ourselves with our wonderful venue.

Live Science Team provide creative, playful, inclusive experiences to people who attend our venue. Enabling excellent visitor experience and supporting other Live Science Team Members will be your priority.


Within our venue you will be presenting shows, facilitating hands-on activities, starting conversations among exhibits and helping people to get involved by sparking curiosity, creating fun and promoting the value of people's opinions and life experiences.

You will also keep aware of the safety of our visitors by following our safeguarding and evacuation procedures.


In our ground-breaking Open City Research activities, you will be the link between our research partners and our visitors, explaining the background of real science research and helping them to participate.


Our venue and events are attended by lots of different people and age groups, but our main audience is families, so you should be confident working with children (aged 3-11 years) and young people, as well as being comfortable encouraging adults to get involved.


What will you do in this role?

Role specific responsibilities:


  • You will facilitate empowering, inclusive and joyful experiences with our audiences, delivering activities in the We The Curious venue. This includes presenting shows in the planetarium, starting conversations among exhibits in our building and running activities in our programming spaces.
  • In these spaces you will lead storytelling, demonstrations, explanations and handson activities. It can include working with simple robots, chemicals, toys, food, plants and bespoke equipment such as smoke machines.
  • You will be at hand amongst the exhibits to start conversations and spark curiosity in our visitors. You will use your knowledge and passion for discovery to encourage interactions between yourself and visitors, and get visitors involved with an exhibit or activity. You will adapt to the needs of the diverse range of individuals who visit We The Curious to deliver excellent visitor experience.
  • You will take initiative to assist visitors and coworkers whenever they need it.
  • You will listen to visitor feedback, remain calm and resolve issues where you are able, working with your colleagues, or escalating, if needed.
  • You will support school visits and welcome school groups on school trips when needed, communicating key information for their day.
  • You will welcome volunteers into We The Curious during holidays and busy periods, being on hand for support and queries throughout the day
  • You will ensure spaces look welcoming, have the equipment needed and are clean and safe.
  • You will keep aware of your surroundings, ensuring that visitors and staff are safe. You will learn and follow safeworking policies, including emergency evacuation procedure and our safeguarding policy.
