In-house Indirect Tax Accountant - FTSE 250 Real Estate - London


My client is looking for a dynamic individual to join their Finance team and take control of and administer the Group's VAT compliance processes including preparation of monthly and quarterly VAT returns and ensuring the Group's VAT administration is keptup to date.


The end-to-end VAT compliance processes will need to be reviewed and updated as and when required to ensure efficiencies throughout the process.


In addition to VAT processes, this role will oversee Construction Industry Scheme compliance activities and become involved in assessing the future tax landscape of our business in these key areas.

This role will also involve using the electronic expensesystem to identify items relevant for the PSA and P11D returns.


Key responsibilities include:


  • Ensure all VAT compliance processes are working effectively and efficiently, including MTD, domestic reverse charging etc.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly VAT returns. (including driving ongoing process and system improvements taking advantage of automation and technology enhancements where relevant)
  • Working closely with and advising Accounts payable team to ensure VAT is being captured correctly at input level.
  • Evaluate the impact of changes in regulations alongside the Head of Tax and carry out VAT training to team members as and when required.
  • Oversee the operation of CIS deductions and submissions, ensuring staff are sufficiently trained.
  • Analyse staff expenses for use in the PSA and P11D returns.
  • Provide assistance on daytoday finance and tax matters as and when required.

Skills and experience required:


Required:


  • Experience working with VAT, ideally within the Real Estate sector.
  • High attention to detail and passionate about delivering quality work.
  • Proven ability to work well with financial accounting systems (efficiently accessing reports, tracing transactions to source, etc).
  • Strong understanding of transaction and data journeys within a large business (ie from processing of invoice through to entry into VAT returns and Financial Statements)
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Able to work on own initiative and suggest improvements to existing processes etc.
  • Good time management and organisation skills.
  • Ability to take responsibility for tasks and complete them to a high standard.

Desirable:


  • Financial or tax qualification in a relevant field.
  • Working knowledge of CIS procedures.
  • Experience of the Microsoft Dynamics accounting package.
  • Experience of working in a finance team in the property sector.
