Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Editor to join the MCB picture-book team, working on books for children aged zero to seven, on a full-time, permanent contract.


The vibrant list includes Number One bestselling picture and gift books from high-profile authors and illustrators, rising stars and award-winners.


You will be responsible for working with senior editorial colleagues on the editing and production of titles on the picture book list.

Working as part of a busy and dynamic team, you will assist in the creation and development of new picture books, anniversary editions, and backlist rejuvenation.

You will be expected to monitor title progress, manage schedules, liaise with authors, illustrators and agents, and maintain strong working relationships with all individuals involved in the editorial and production process.

This wide-ranging role combines creativity and task management with excellent administration, organisational and communication skills.


Your usual day might include helping to read and respond to submissions, managing and editing new-cover, reissue and anniversary editions, second-editing new picture books with a senior colleague, researching the market, writing copy for sales material, and updating and maintaining internal data systems.


  • Have at least a year's experience working in a trade publishing house
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills, as well as good
numeracy skills

  • Be highly organised, proactive and selfmotivated able to effectively
prioritise tasks and workflow

  • Have an impeccable eye for detail
  • Demonstrate an inclusive approach and be an enthusiastic team player
  • Be able to demonstrate curiosity and a real interest in, and passion for,
children's books
ideally have some knowledge of relevant publishing systems, e.g. Biblio,
Vista, File Director

This role is a full time, permanent position, based in our offices in Farringon, London, with some flexibility to work from home each week.


Salary starting from:
£27,000
