Description
The Renal Surgery team currently employs five substantive Consultant Surgeons and a locum consultant surgeon. The team is providing dialysis access and adult renal transplant surgical services for South West London.

Our local transplant network provides services for St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Our services include live and deceased donor renal transplant surgery, laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, peritoneal and vascular access services, pre and post-operative assessments for renal transplantation and dialysis access procedures, complex vascular access procedures, various procedures for renal and transplant patient like polycystic nephrectomies, transplant nephrectomies, transplant ureteric re-implantations.

The elective activity is bases at St Georges University Hospital NHS Trust Tooting, London and St Helier NHS Trust. The emergency oncall activity is based at St Georges University Hospital NHS Trust Tooting, London. The general layout of the rota is created in a way to minimise same day travel between two sites.

However, where required the timing of the clinics and job plan allows sufficient travelling time from one site to other.


Renal patients are managed through a multi-disciplinary team with the support of transplant surgical consultants, nephrology consultants, clinical nurse specialists, renal dieticians, renal pharmacist and renal psychologist.

This is a full-time post and currently does not attract part time, flexible hours or job share options.

The post-holder will be expected to share responsibility for elective renal surgery operating lists mainly focusing on vascular access surgery, running of access and transplant outpatient clinics, kidney sharing theatre activity, on-call activity including deceased donor transplantation and leave cover for colleagues.

The post holder will be provided with appropriate admin support.
