Insurance Policy Wordings & Technical Support Specialist

The successful individual will support the business in meeting strategic priorities by:

  • Managing the delivery of policy wordings and supporting documentation for new product lines and revisions to existing products; and
  • Delivering frontline support to Underwriters on technical issues


To similarly support the business in the alignment of all lines of business in relation to consistency of processes and documentation.

The Role

  • Contribute to the development of new policy wordings, IPIDs, clause libraries, schedule templates (manual and electronic), plus any other documentation or forms for existing classes or for new lines of business, including proof reading and critical review.
  • Manage the review, improvement, updating and maintenance annually (or as required, if sooner) of all versions and variations of all policy wordings for all classes, and associated IPIDs, clause libraries, schedule templates (manual and electronic) plus any other documentation or forms, including in response to legal or regulatory changes.
  • Maintain and act upon a record of all changes identified between each review, and record the rationale for those changes, including making suggestions for such changes where appropriate.
  • Maintain (or manage the maintenance of) a record of all such versions and variations, including start and end dates for their validity, liaising with internal and external IT colleagues in this regard.
  • Assist with the specification of question sets.
  • Support the lines of business in benchmarking wordings and best practice.
  • Act as a first point of contact for enquiries from underwriters, providing or seeking a response, as appropriate.
  • Support the Lines of Business, Marketing and Distribution in drafting or proofreading marketing and training collateral.
  • Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
  • Define, populate and maintain (or manage the population and maintenance of) certain document repositories.
  • Perform (or manage the performance of) periodic and ad hoc accuracy checking, such as overseas taxes.
  • Perform (or manage the performance of) periodic and ad hoc reporting such as ATIA, Gareat and TRIA.
  • Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
What we are looking for

  • A detailed understanding of policy wording construction
  • A thorough technical understanding of at least one of the classes written by NMU, or property and casualty business, and an appreciation of all those classes and the differences between them
  • A good understanding of relevant insurance law
  • A good understanding of how delegated authorities operate
  • An appreciation of the insurance regulatory landscape, including the peculiarities of the Lloyd's market and Lloyd's Europe
  • The ability to work independently (or with mínimal supervision, where appropriate)
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly written English
  • Policy document drafting, particularly the avoidance of ambiguity, including the necessary MS Word skills to support document creation, making use of styles, tables, etc
  • Policy document critical review, with a keen eye for detail
  • Organisation, including time and resource management

  • Relationship building
Key Skills & Experience

  • Cert CII required / Dip CII and/or progress towards ACII preferred.
