About the Practice/Department/Team


Stamford Surgery at Lakeside Healthcare is an innovative, high performing and partner dispensing practice, with a patient list size of approximately 28,000.


Our aim is to provide exemplary patient care; finding innovative solutions in general practice to deliver the best care we can to our patients.


Job Introduction
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a General Practice Assistant (GPA) at Lakeside Healthcare Stamford.


General Practice Assistant is an exciting new role introduced to provide extra time, capacity and expertise to support patients in preparing for, or in following-up, clinical conversations they have with clinicians.

The GPA will be working closely with the GPs and other healthcare professionals across the practice and PCN; the post holder will support with undertaking basic clinical observations, supporting patients with long term condition reviews, wound and/or immunisation care and liaise with outside agencies, enabling clinicians to continue with consultations.

The post also requires administrative support.

The post holder will complete administration tasks for clinicians, such as coding patient records and completing non-opinion forms on behalf of the health professionals for review and implementing plus review the planning of patient care.


You will:


  • Work in a patientcentred and holistic way, promoting an individual's wellbeing.
  • Prepare patients prior to them consulting with a GP or senior AHP, either in person or via Doctrin platform; taking brief history and basic clinical readings, where required.
  • Share appropriate questionnaires with patients online prior to consultation for Long Term Condition management and reviews.
  • Prepare for, obtain, test and report on, various patient samples.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients.
  • Support the implementation, monitoring and planning of patient care.
  • Complete basic (nonopinion) forms and core elements of some forms for GPs to approve and sign e.g., Insurance, Mortgage, Benefit Agency forms etc.
  • Liaise with outside agencies e.g. to ask for advice, allowing the GP/AHP to continue their medical consultation.
  • Support the GP/Health Practitioners with immunisation/wound care.
  • Arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and followup for patients.
  • Sort clinical correspondence and prioritising for the GP/AHP in terms of actions.
  • Signpost any additional actions to other suitable clinical services; internal and external.
  • Extraction of coding requirements from clinical letters and adding to notes.
  • Work with clinical lead(s) on quality audits to support accurate coding of the patient record.

Essential Criteria

  • Good level of education with GCSE Math and English Grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Ability to complete administrative tasks with a high level of detail.
  • Methodical and efficient in approach to work.
  • Experience of working in a clinical or healthcare environment.
  • Highly motivated and proactive.
  • Maintain a calm approach with workload.

Desirable Criteria

  • The post holder must hold a GP Assistant certificate or be willing to complete the course to obtain the certificate.
