Overall Purpose of the Job


The Support Officer will assist in the management of all activities relating to the welfare, care, and development of companions in the community in a manner, which embodies the Emmaus ethos.

The post holder will be responsible for the support and development of the companions to enhance their skills and confidence.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

Companion Support and Management

  • To build good relationships with companions and understand their needs and ambitions
  • To have monthly support meetings with companions developing individual support plans to achieve their aspirations
  • To assist companions to make and attend appointments in accordance with Emmaus L&Rs procedures (Doctors, solicitors etc.)
  • To support companions to maintain their accommodation by assisting with quarterly room checks as necessary to ensure that all rooms are kept clean
  • To assist the Community Manager with the companion referral process, ensuring that referrals and risk assessment processes provide a balanced and safe community
  • To complete Housing Benefit forms for the companions and submit to the local authority by deadline dates
  • With the Community Manager ensure companions are involved in all aspects of community life and are part of its organisation, development, and decisionmaking processes
  • To be responsible for daytoday problem solving and conflict resolution, taking appropriate
disciplinary action in a fair and consistent manner, when necessary, in line with community

policies and procedures

  • To ensure that all case files, filing, and information systems are maintained efficiently
  • In the absence of the Community Manager bring to the attention of staff at weekly management meetings relevant information about companions joining or leaving the community
  • To be responsible for the daytoday administration, organisation, and effective operation of Emmaus L&R.

These include but are not inclusive to:
Ø Companion occupancy and weekly payments

Ø Companion weekly food shopping

Ø Breathalyser and drug tests

Ø Office security and data protection

Ø Compliance with health and Safety requirements

Ø Provide companion and financial reports when required


Developing Companions' Skills

  • Responsible for the development of companions' skills, individually and collectively, to enhance their individual development and that of the community
  • Develop and manage formal support processes for companions, including onetoones and development plans, using the appropriate tools

Budgetary Control

  • The Support Officer will assist the Community Manager in managing budgets relating to companion expenditure including food, welfare, companion development, wellbeing, and gifts
  • The Support Officer will contribute to the annual budget planning process associated with companions and the community homes. Report on finances associated with companions and the community homes to the Community Manager
  • Emmaus communities aim to be selfsustaining financially and the Support Officer is expected to take effective measures towards this goal. Community accounts must demonstrate value for money principles

Other Duties

  • As per rota provide nighttime cover, on call cover and act as the responsible person on duty as per on call procedure
  • As and when required respond to incidents relating to Health and Safety, security, and emergencies
  • Attend internal and other Emmaus meetings as required by the Director or Community Manager
  • With the Community Manager develop and implement procedures and processes in compliance with policies; ensure Companions, staff and volunteers are aware of and comply with relevant policies and procedures
  • To assist the Director and Community Manager in the development of solidarity action within and from the community
  • Perform any other tasks or duties deemed necessary by the Community Manager, within the grade level for the post

Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent

Part-time hours: 24 per week


Salary:
£10.50 per hour
