As we focus on delivering affordable point of care _in vitro_ molecular diagnostics for patient management in emergency care, we are seeking to fill an Industrial Design Engineer vacancy (Fixed Term Appointment) with our Engineering team.

The GenedriveEngineering team is accountable for all aspects of instrumentation and consumables product development starting from Mechanical Engineering through Electronics and Software Engineering.

You will be an individual with demonstrable entrepreneurial passion andflair for product development, with significant experience ideally in medical device product development or with experience gained in a similar regulated industrial setting.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
You will report to the Head of Engineering.

Your key responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Mechanical/industrial design, prototyping, design and component verification, and manufacturing transfer.
  • Generating new ideas and concepts to solve known and anticipated emerging problems
  • Leading design history creation and management, including origination of 3D assembly models, schematics, BOMs, material specifications and verification protocols within an ISO 13485 product design and manufacturing environment. Working closely with crossfunctionalteams of R&D scientists, electronic and software engineers in product design specification, human factors, user experience and FMEA.
  • Supporting internal Operations and outsource manufacturing teams in process development, validation and incoming goods QC/ component checking.
  • Support Quality/Regulatory teams with CAPA, outofspec/nonconfirming product investigations on Genedrive mechanical/ consumable parts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
To perform the job successfully, you should be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical/electronics engineering.
- +5 years industry experience( or equivalent experience ) in an industrial design, mechanical, mechatronic or design engineering-related discipline.

  • Experience working in complex plastic part prototyping and manufacture
  • Experience in the overseeing the manufacture of vacuum cast and injection molding tools
  • Highly proficient in Solidworks part design, assembly modelling, rendering and visualization.
  • Critical tolerance, FMEA and design for manufacturing analysis.
  • Creation of BOMs, schematics and component specifications.
  • Able to work collaboratively with internal and external partners in product design and commercial realization.
  • ISO13485/ IVD medical device experience highly desirable (but not essential).
  • Strong working knowledge of design control procedures, and strong ownership and accountability of projects, deliverables, and due dates.

WHERE WILL I BE WORKING?


At our offices at 48 Grafton Street, Manchester within the Core Technology Facility within UMIC, which is part of the University of Manchester.

Easily accessible via walking, cycling, bus and train.
You will be office based, but there is flexibility for partial hybrid working arrangements.

SALARY
Commensurate with experience


HOURS OF WORK
You will be required to work 37.5 hours per week between the hours of 8.00am and 6.00pm. You can discuss your ideal start and finish times with us.
