Recent Research, Presentations and Publications

 

Research Proposal        Principle Investigator (PI) in Observational study of treatment history, quality of life, treatment satisfaction, and disease symptom severity in adult patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis treated with bimekizumab in routine clinical practice (ELEVATE) sponsored by UCB Bioscience GmbH (IRAS ID 315744) is to be commenced in 2024, planned for a study duration of 3 years and 25 days in the UK. Participants are prescribed Bimzelx® (bimekizumab) by their treating physician according to standard medical practice and are being asked to allow collection of their data. This data collection survey is a non-interventional study (NIS) which is initiated, managed, and financed by UCB Biopharma SRL who is the Sponsor of this NIS. The purpose of this NIS is to collect medical information about the treatment after having taken Bimzelx® so that a record of whether Bimzelx® causes any side-effects, and see whether Bimzelx® does or does not have any effect on the participant’s health-related quality of life. In addition, information on the degree of treatment satisfaction with Bimzelx® will be collected.

 

July 2024          Speaker at Eli Lily® Sponsored Symposium in 104th BAD Annual Conference: The Biologic Conundrum/Management of Plaque Psoriasis and Arthropathy/Dermatology Workforce Challenge

05/12/2019 - Present     Principal Investigator (PI) for an Observational Study entitled VALUE. This is an observational study of patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in the United Kingdom, and approximately 20 other countries worldwide. The study population will consist of adult subjects (aged ≥18 years) with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. A total study target sample of 180+ patients have recruited from the UK over approximately 15 to 20 NHS hospitals. The study research data has been obtained from the medical records and entered into an electronic case report form (eCRF) by the physician or members of research teams. One eCRF was to be completed for each patient per visit (every 3-4 months as per clinical practice) for up to 3 years. The study is eligible for NIHR portfolio inclusion (REC reference: 19/LO/1401), duration of Study in the UK was planned to go on for 4 years and 6 months. Study was sponsored by Abbvie Ltd.

July 2022:         Atopic Dermatitis and Allergy DPHC Primary Care Clinical CPD Programme – Dermatology (Webinar). In this CPD accredited session, I described pathophysiology of AD, its link with allergies and advised a treatment strategy as well as counselling for parents seeking allergy testing. 

 

Case Report “An unusual suspect” S.Sherif, CM Lee, R Stitson. Well syndrome in a 32 year old diagnosed based on clinical features, confirmed on histology. Case was displayed as e-Poster at 102nd BAD Annual Meeting in Glasgow.

Mar 2019:         Southern Dermatology Masterclass, Guildford. I gave an hour long lecture to upskill the knowledge of circa 45 Healthcare professionals including GPwSI and Specialist nurse from across Hampshire and regions. Speaking on “Psoriasis and Management” I summarised the pathophysiology of psoriasis based on the latest scientific evidence, and the investigation and management of Psoriasis of skin.

            

Medical GroundRound, FPH. “Nodular Lymphangitis: Sporotrichois and PVL-Staph Infections”. A memorable case of a perfectly healthy builder having an indolent onset of inflammatory lesions and cutaneous abscesses with sporotrichoid spread. Histology gave the initial confirmation of suspicion of sporotrichosis, as well as incidental finding of PVL-staph, but final confirmation would have been via microbiological studies. The discussion took place, with consultant microbiologist Dr Garner giving his views as well as sharing knowledge on the subject matter.

 

FPH Dermatology Journal Club, FPH. Presented “Cheng, Harriet S., and Marius Rademaker. "Monitoring methotrexate-induced liver fibrosis in patients with psoriasis: Utility of transient elastography." Psoriasis: Targets and Therapy 8 (2018): 21.” in Departmental Meeting, setting direction for the team in clinical practice.

 

Jan 2019:          FPH Dermatology journal Club, FPH. Chaired and presented “Robinson et al. “Protection against UVR involves MC1R-mediated non-pigmentary and pigmentary mechanisms in vivo” Journal of Investigative Dermatology 2010.

 

Nov 2018:         Medical GrandRound, FPH. “Sweet’s Syndrome associated with SLE”. A memorable case of 13 year old acquiring autoimmune hepatitis, symptoms being subtle but skin presentation alerted GP and triggered a referral. A link was established between Sweet’s sx and SLE via literature research. A GrandRound presentation in which I presented my clinical reasoning and differential diagnoses.

 

Oct 2018:          FPH Dermatology Journal Club, FPH. Chaired and presented “Pigment-lightening effect of N, N’dilinoleylcystamine on human melanoma cells” BJD (2004). Chaired and Presented, discussed and appraised paper. Agenda and Minutes produced.

 

July-Nov 2018:   International Video Conferencing, organised by ScientisPharma ltd. I was an invited speaker known for my knowledge in the field “Cysteamine: a novel treatment for epidermal Melasma” speaking on 3 Webinars to dermatologists, and plastics and reconstructive surgeons on the topic of dyspigmentation disorders and currently available topical treatments. 

 

May 2018:         Regional GP Dermatology Training Day, FPH. “Atopic Eczema and Psoriasis: Pathophysiology, Clinical Investigations, and Therapeutics” in two 20 minute lectures.

 

Mar 2018:         Medical GrandRound, FPH. “Atopic Dermatitis and red and scaly rashes”. A talk centred on the immunological background of AD, diagnosis & management plan and differentiating features from other inflammatory dermatological conditions.

 

Regional Teaching Day for Core Medical Trainees (CMT), FPH. “Dermatology: Dermatological Emergencies and General Dermatology”, to which I contributed two talks (2 hours) to cover Derm Emergencies and common but less serious inflammatory dermatological conditions, at a level practical for trainees in Core Medical Training. Style and content of presentation were well-received (with feedbacks).

 

Feb 2018:         SouthWest Thames (Regional) Dermatology Meeting, as chief organiser and chairperson of the meeting hosted in Frimley Park Hospital (4 CPD), in which I presented and discussed two audits and two cases:

  1. Presented findings of ‘Selecting “high-risk” SCC cases to be kept under close surveillance’, with endorsement of a 5 year follow-up plan
  2. Presented data of clinical audit of quality of patch testing in contact allergy and recommended some key changes
  3. Case presentation of Chronic Psoriasis with recalcitrant facial cellulitis and lymphoedema, attributed to ‘paradoxical’ TNF-alpha induced Psoriasiform Dermatitis
  4. Case Presentation of Bullous Lupus with the proposal of treating with a combination of dapson and hydroxychloroquine

SouthWest Thames Regional Dermatology and Allergy Teaching for General Practitioners” (2 days, 6 cpd) as a co-founder, organiser, as well as chairperson of the meetings, hosted in Royal Surrey County Hospital. Sponsorship received from Galderma (UK) Ltd. I presented clinical updates regarding pathophysiology and treatment options for psoriasis.
