The City of London Corporation is the governing body of the Square Mile, dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally-successful UK, aiming to contribute to a flourishing society, shape outstanding environments and support a thriving economy.

City and Hackney Public Health Service is a dynamic and committed team, serving the populations of both Hackney and the City of London and known for being innovative and passionate about improving the health of our local populations.

Having recently been restructured, the team is on a journey to transform the authorities, to take a 'Health in All Policies' approach.

Responsibilities

We are seeking to recruit a Senior Public Health Practitioner to help reduce health inequalities, promote better health and wellbeing, and lead on delivery of specific programmes and projects.

This role will have a primary responsibility to support implementation of our local tobacco control plans, through the expansion and strengthening of our evidence-based stop smoking services.

In support of its 'smokefree 2030' ambition, in October 2023 the Government announced its intention to allocate additional funding to local authorities to supplement existing investment in stop smoking services through a ringfenced grant over five years, from 2024/5 to 2028/9.

Working closely with a Senior Public Health Specialist, the postholder will lead on the planning, delivery, monitoring and reporting of activity funded by the ringfenced stop smoking service grant.

This activity will be designed to meet the specific needs of City and Hackney's diverse populations, reduce smoking prevalence and narrow inequalities in smoking-related harms.

Requirements:

In order to be considered for this vital position within the City and Hackney Public Health team, you will need relevant qualifications and on-the-job experience.

This means that as well as having a degree in a relevant discipline or an equivalent level of public health experience, you will possess an understanding of basic behaviour change and public health principles.

You must also have the tact, compassion and expertise to work in a diverse community where health inequalities persist.

You will possess a good knowledge of, and competency in, project management and programme delivery.

You will have gained solid experience of tackling health inequality and a proven track record in taking the initiative and leading on work - both autonomously and within teams.

You will possess excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and have demonstrated a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Commissioning experience is desirable, and it is expected you will be working at Public Health Skills and Careers Framework Levels 4 to 5.
