The Associate CNS for RDS role is an exciting opportunity to be a vital member of a new team pivotal to the implementation of the Rapid Diagnostic Service (RDS) pathway for patients with suspected gastro-intestinal cancer.

This opportunity is to contribute to the nursing team of this 4 year flagship programme.

Supporting the Senior RDS CNS team in strategic development of the RDS, working in collaboration with Allied Healthcare Professionals, taking in the needs of the local community.

Aiming to achieve early identification and timely diagnosis by contributing in creating a predominantly virtual, integrated pathway for Lower GI (colorectal) and Non-Specific Symptoms (NSS) The post holder will influence the positive experience of the patient and their carers by working with the multidisciplinary team across MSEFT, and develop skills to enable them to provide the key elements of the CNS role.


The position will be in the main based on the Broomfield site of the MSE with cross site working for training, development and absence cover once the IT hospital systems have integrated.

Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust are looking to employ a band 6/7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to lead the Rapid Diagnostic Centre service.

The CNS role is pivotal to the implementation of the rapid diagnostic pathway for patients with suspected gastro-intestinal cancer.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the nursing setup in the setup of a 4 year flagship programme hosted by Basildon Hospital for Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust (MSEFT) Supporting the strategic development of the Rapid Diagnostic Centre service, working in collaboration with other Health Care Professionals, service users and other agencies, taking into consideration the primary care aspects of the NHS Cancer Strategy, the East of England Cancer Alliance and the needs of the local community.

Aiming to achieve early identification and timely diagnosis by creating an integrated pathway for Lower GI and non-specific symptoms. This alongside supporting those with a CUP diagnosis who would have been through a lengthy diagnostic pathway. This role is a new nurse led initiative

The Rapid diagnostic Centre covers the three acute trusts in the Mid and South Essex locality ( MID Essex Hospital Service NHS Trust, Southend University Hospital NHS FT and Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS FT, in addition to CCG's) You will generally be expected to

undertake your normal duties at the principal place of work, however, in the course of your duties you may also be required to work at any of the sites within the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust areas as well as other NHS sites as part of the delivery of the service.
