Our clients site based at Hams Hall is a modern, state-of-the-art engine manufacturing facility, located just outside Birmingham, UK. Producing the latest generation of 3, 4, 8 and 12-cylinder petrol engines and precision machining key engine components. Procuring production parts from a wide-ranging European supplier base.


Operating seven days a week, with more than one engine rolling off the line per minute, the plant plays a key role in the Group's global production network, supplying engines for BMW and MINI, including some of the latest plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Material Control and Transport Co-ordination

We are seeking an experienced Logistics professional. Who has worked in Transport and Material Control, Logistics. In this role you will be working with many process partners inside and outside BMW.

A key task would be creating and managing our Inbound Priority Off Load Plans (including both standard and emergency transports) to ensure we build throughout the week and weekend (notionally Thursday - Sunday); As part of the role you would also be focused on both haulier and supplier performance management including managing diverse expectations, Material Planner cover.

Being an effective communicator is key. Solving problems in a timely manner is vital too, as you will leading the resolution of the problems.

This will involve working closely with Hauliers, Special Transport Companies, Material Control, Physical Logistics and Assembly Planning teams to ensure we protect production and re-establish workable delivery plans for late deliveries of production parts to support weekend engine production.

A core task will be to identify problems and work with the hauliers to create workable catch back plans. Having a proven track record of working effectively in transport Logistics, and Physical Logistics will therefore be important.

Being able to work with Microsoft Excel, SAP Logistics transactions and web-based systems processes, is also core requirement to be able to perform the role.

Knowledge of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).

What will you be doing?

  • Operating both Material Control and Transport Steering processes, on day to day operational tasks, performance measurement and projects.
  • Work with Material planners within the BMW network, including Hams Hall, Steyr and Munich for the commodities under the control of the Material Control department at Hams Hall.
  • Communicating with assembly planning and physical logistics departments at both Steyr and Hams Hall.
  • Scheduling of assembly components to support both Baukasten and V series engine requirements.
  • Working with external haulier and suppliers to ensure timely delivery, process adherence and data quality.
  • Daily Delivery Planning and performance monitoring of suppliers and hauliers along with prompt / timely escalation of critical supply topics using recognised tools and techniques.
  • Driving Hauliers through Performance Reviews to ensure we protect production, improve supply to schedule and load quality.
Qualifications - External

  • Formal qualification in Logistics not mandatory. However, either an degree level of ONC, HNC or HND is Business and Logistics would be ideal (i.e. Bachelor's degree in Business Management, International Business, Supply Chain Management would a very good fit)
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain systems and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange).
  • Effective communication and teamworking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and be agile.
  • Extremely selfmotivated and driven.
  • Attention to detail.
Working days will be Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday, covering 37 hours.

Client is flexible on what this looks like, but it will be between the hours of 10:00 - 22:00.


The role includes hybrid working 50/50, initially the client would like this person in the office over the weekend, but once they have settled in, he's comfortable with them working from home Saturday/Sunday.

Ideally looking for this person to come from the automotive industry or some kind of customer based supply. Maybe FMCG, customer focused, manufacturing supply, etc. Other similar titles might include Logistics Controller, Transport Manager.
