As a Trainee Company Secretary you will support the Company Secretary in delivering a best in-class company secretariat, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of corporate governance and compliance with related legal and statutory requirements in order to build and protect BGL/CTM's reputation.

This role is working within the commercial division of Compare the Market, it is fast paced, is is exciting and you've got to expect and adapt to change.


Some of the main responsibilities:


  • Supporting the Company Secretary in ensuring the Compare the Market (CtM) and HoldCo Boards and Committees function efficiently and effectively.
  • Supporting and assisting the Company Secretary with the preparation and maintenance of paper reminders, forward agenda planners, agenda, minute templates, action logs, collation and production of meeting packs and following up on action points.
  • Using Diligent Boards to upload and circulate Board and Committee papers.
  • Attendance at Audit Committee and production of first draft minutes for review and agreement by the Company Secretary and Committee chair.
  • Undertaking statutory compliance for Group legal entities and supporting maintenance of the statutory and other records.
  • Supporting the Company Secretary with the annual directors' sign offs and drafting of relevant sections of the Annual Report and Accounts.
  • Responding to queries raised by internal and external stakeholders e.g. responding to auditor information requests and the collation of information in response to KYC enquiries and other correspondence.
  • Assisting with the induction and ongoing training of directors, including maintaining an up to date directors' handbook with relevant materials to support Directors in discharging their duties.
  • Supporting on corporate actions and transactions, including Board and Shareholder approval documents

  • Educated to degree level, preferably with a legal background
  • Some understanding of the basic principles of UK company law, FCA and corporate governance regulations
  • Drive and commitment to the Company Secretarial profession and to complete the CGI (ICSA) qualification
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Extremely trustworthy, discreet, and always maintains the highest level of integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills communicates issues in plain English and adapts style to the audience
  • The ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of an organisation.
  • Good organisational skills with ability to proactively manage multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Ability to respond to issues quickly and confidently
